• To Mr. George WEEKS : Sir we have Considered your Paper dated 1 Jul 1748 & accept of y^e Satisfaction w^ch you therein offer for your former absenting from y^e ordinance of y^e Lord's Supper we have also heared a letter from yourself dated 4 May 1749 . directed in P't to us w^ch if we mistake not you intimate a desire of know'g on w't acct any of us have been disaffected to your partaking with us in this ordinance; In answer unto w^ch we Sy y^t we know nothing w^ch as we thing at present ought to debar you from this Priviledge & therefore shall not attempt to do it as things are at present. However we think proper to observe to you, y^t your keeping a woman of ill fame in your House, your frequent travailing with her from Place to Place, & treat'g her & her illegitimate Child with much Tenderness are things w^ch we fear are not of good report, especially when these things have Occasioned much Uneasiness in y^e Minds of Some; & therefore as you regard your own Credit, & y^e Honour of y^e Christian name, & especially y^e Honour of y^e Chh of w^ch you are a member, yea as you would keep out of y^e way of Temptation we erenestly intreat y^t you would dismiss y^t woman from your House, & avoid her Conversation as much as is Convenient or at least inform us of y^e Reasons w^ch prevent you from doing thus if you thing proper. We remain your Brethren in y^e Faith & fellowship of y^e Gospel.

A copy of my letter to him Dated 13 Jul 1749 & his Answer to it were read & he was asked whether he had Any thing further to offer to w^ch he Answered y^t he had Not, & after Means were used with him to Convince him of his Sin in Absenting both by y^e Pastor & some of y^e Brethren. • The 1st Chh in Hawich Met to hear a Charge exhibited against Sister Rachel GRAY from Miriam GRAY, wherein Miriam Complains y^t Rachel S^d She (y^e S^d Miriam) had taken a false Oath : To hear y^e Evidences & do w^t was tho't Proper. The Chh Met also to Conside Whether S^d Rachel was worthy of a Chh Censure on y^e Acc't of Pushing Lydia GRAY out of y^e Pew & hunching Miriam GRAY in Time of divine Service in y^e Meeting House Sometime in July 1762 : y^e S^d Rachel having desired y^e Chh to Consider these Articles & also to Consider whether Miriam GRAY was not to blame for Neglecting y^e Rule of our Saviour in Mat 18 . 15 . &c -- And likewise to hear a Complaint with y^e Evidences to Support it against Sister Elizabeth BANGS exhibited by Sister Miriam GRAY, which is Set forth that Elizabeth S^d y^t Miriam had taken a false oath.
        After having heared for 4 Hours a great Number of Evidencis & heared y^e Parties fully y^e Whole was referred by y^e Chh to a Comittee to Report with y^e Pastor w^t appeared proper for y^e Chh to do.
        The Comitte was y^e 3 Deacons Brother Tho^s WINSLOW & Brother Benjⁿ BANGS . Who Met August y^e 3d -- And their Report was Comunicated to y^e Chh August y^e 7th for their Consideration . y^t y^y might be in a Reddiness to act when y^e Chh was Called together for y^t End. At y^e Same time a Paper was Comunicated to y^e Chh in which Rachel GRAY desired y^e Chh to See if Miriam was Not worthy of a Chh Censure for Not taking y^e Gospel Rule in Some other Cases yn that Referred to in her former Request & also to Consider y^e falsity of Miriam in Saying y^t Tho^s GRAY was not in y^e Pew when Lydia was pushed.
        8 Aug : The Chh Met & Voted y^t y^e Evidences to Convict Sister Elizabeth BANGS of Saying y^t Sister Miriam GRAY had taken a false oath were insufficient & y^t they be Mutually advised to y^e Exercise of Charity for each other.
        Y^t sister Rachel GRAY is not worthy of a Chh Censure On y^e Acc't of pushing Lydia GRAY out of y^e Pew.
        Then Tho^s WINSLOW Jun^r was Called & as his Evidence did not agree with Lydia GRAYS about y^e 2d Presentment & he could not Say when he Saw what he testified votid
        Y^t The Evidences to Convict Rachel GRAY of Pushing or hunching Miriam GRAY are insufficient for her Conviction
        Voted also: Y^t Altho' it appears to this Chh y^t Sister Rachel GRAY is not worthy of a Chh Censure for pushing Lydia GRAY (y^e offence being of Such a Nature as not to be worthy Such a Censure) yet as Sister Rachel GRAY both Charged Miriam GRAY with taking a false oath, for this offence She ought to make a public Confession. & voted
        Y^t Miriam GRAY is not worthy an Ecclesiastical Censure for Neglecting y^e Rule in Mat 18 . 15, So far as Relates to y^e offence of Rachels Saying that Miriam took a false oath.
        After w^ch y^e Chh Chose a Comittee to Report what might be proper for y^e Chh to do relating to Sister Rachel GRAY's Complaint against Miriam, & also to report What particular Confession Rachel Gray ought to make. The Comittee Appointed was Deacons MAYO & SNOW, Colⁿ WINSLOW, Joseph HOPKINS & Benjⁿ BANGS.
        5 Oct : The Chh Met & diverse Evidences were called to prove y^t Miriam GRAY was Under Oath When She S^d Tho^s GRAY was not in y^e Pew When Lydia was pushed out. w^t they declared Made it evident y^t Miriam s^d this Whilst y^e Court was in Being Whilst Lydia was Under Examination & thus voted by y^e chh.
        At y^e Same Meeting Nath^l LINCOLN was appointed by y^e Chh to be of y^e Comittee Chosen at y^e last meeting (in y^e Room of Benjⁿ BANGS who was absent). And y^e Report of y^e Comittee was Comunicated y^e next Sabbath to y^e Chh for their Consideration.
        At a Chh Meeting on 4 Apr 1767 . Voted after a Debate on y^e Premises y^t it appears to y^e Chh that Miriam GRAY was under oath wn She declared y^t Tho^s GRAY was not in y^e Pew.
        Voted y^t appears to y^e Chh (by y^e Evidences & Rachel GRAY's Conversation) y^t S^d Rachel in Charging Miriam GRAY with taking a false Oath had Reference to y^e Substance of Miriam's Evidence, as well as to Miriam's Saying y^t Thomas GRAY was not in y^e Pew.
       The Report of a Comittee of 5 Oct 1763 . Read & in part received & in part rejected by y^e Chh as appears by Minite on S^d Report. After w^ch Miriam GRAY was Called upon to give Satisfaction for Saying when under oath y^t Tho^s Gray was not in y^e Pew, Which She did by declarg y^t She was Sorry for W't she had S^d & Asked forgiveness, but in y^e Time of it really Tho't as She S^d; w^ch was voted Sufficient Satisfaction by the Chh.
        Then y^e Meeting dismissed.
