M. A. Lesem's Kneipp Sanitarium
For the Cure of Acute and Chronic Diseases.
2455-2467 FIRST STREET, SAN DIEGO, CAL.
I HIS institution is strictly a Kneipp Sanitarium. All treatments are administered in exact accordance with the precepts of Kneipp him- self. Our marvelous success in curing the sick has been achieved through means of long experience, coupled with the knowledge of how to properly administer the various treatments, and by strictly confining ourselves to the Kneipp method of treatment. Numberless sufferers have come to us afflicted with very critical diseases which had been pronounced incurable by others. But with our method of treatment, we have obtained the most aston- ishing results, restoring them to perfect health. We hold in our possession numerous testimonials substantiating the above statement-testimonials freely tendered to us by the best people in the city and elsewhere.
All sufferers desiring relief, who are not familiar with the Kneipp treat- ment as is practiced by us are requested to call, and we will furnish them convincing proofs that any and all diseases, whether acute or of long stand- ing, will yield to our system of using the Kneipp method of treatment. We charge nothing for consultation. Pamphlets furnished upon request.
Remember, all diseases cured without drugs or operation.

INTRODUCTORY
The eighth volume of our publication of the San Diego City and County Directory is herewith presented with the assurance that the utmost care has been used to make it as accurate as is possible in a publication of this nature.
We have endeavored to obtain the latest addresses for those locating in the many new business buildings, and this has been ac- countable in part for the book being delayed a few weeks beyond the regular date of publication.
All vacant houses and the residences in course of erection at the time of our first canvass were made note of and again visited be- fore the press work, and in this manner the names of new arrivals and those having changed their abode were obtained.
Notices were also run repeatedly in the daily papers asking for changes of address and this brought us hundreds of responses, for the public generally recognize the importance of having their names ap- pear correctly in the directory so that the postoffice department may be assisted in the prompt delivery of mail.
Names are bound to be omitted no matter how much care is used in the compilation of the work, but we feel that this publica- tion will be found to be up to the standard of the best in comparison with other directories.
References have been made as heretofore from the different spelling of names with the same pronounciation which will be found of great assistance.
The street guide showing the numbers at intersections has been carefully revised with the assistance of the City Water Department and the changes in the northern portion of the city particularly were very numerous. This enables one to locate a house number with ease and will be appreciated by those consulting this volume.
In San Diego proper we have gained twenty-one pages of names, which shows conclusively the growth of our city in population.
This increase brings our estimate to 48,000 persons, which in- cludes City Heights and those residing near the border line of the eastern city limits.
Our Directory is exchanged with all the important cities throughout the United States, and thus affords a medium of advertis- ing the city to the outside world.
We wish to acknowledge the liberal patronage of our business people to this work and to the public for their courteous treatment of our enumerators.
