The institution was founded in 1864, and since that time its patronage hus steadily increased from year to year. Among its patrous are to be found a large number of the most influential men of the Coast. It is located at 320 Post street, and occupies the entire upper floor of the Red Men's Building. arranged especially for this College, are large, well lighted and the best ventilated of any in the city.


The proprietors, T. A. Robinson and W. E. Cham- berlain, jr., are well and favorably known in educa- tional circles throughout the Coast. Prof. Robinson had charge of the Mathematical and Commercial De- partments of University College of this city, from 1864 to 1872. Since the latter date he has been an active partner in the Pacific Business Collego. Prof. Chamberlain, for three years previous to his connec- tion with this institution, occupied the position of principal in several public schools in the City and County of Sacramento, and since 1869 has been a partner in the College. These gentlemen and the remainder of the faculty are, by long experience, eminently fitted for the positions they occupy.


It is the design of the institution to prepare young and middle aged men and Jadies for business pursuits. The Business Course embraces the following branch- es: Double and Single Entry Bookkeeping, Penman- ship, Commercial Calculations, Business Correspond- ence, Forms and Practice in wholesale and retail Merchandising, Importing, Commission and For- warding, Banking, etc., etc .; Commercial Law lectures, and incidental instruction and lectures on Political Economy, Business Ethics, and other sub- jects of interest, advancement or profit. In the English and Mathematical Departments the usual English branches and mathematical studies are taught, such as Spelling, Reading, Writing, Arithme- tic, Grammar, Composition, Letter Writing, etc., Algebra, Geometry, Surveying, Navigation, etc .. etc., including the Differential and Integral Calculus. The Telegraphic Course includes sound and paper operating, the setting up of instruments, manage- ment of batteries, use of switches and ground wires, etc. Facilities are offered for the study of French, German and Spanish.

SAN FRANCISCO THEOLOGICAL SEMINARY- Inaugurated by the Synod of the Pacific of the Presby- terian Church, in 1871. It is open for students from all denominations. The scholastic year opens Sept. 1st and closes May Ist. The qualifications for admuis- sion are the same as in the old established theological schools in the East.
