Lincoln Grammar School Association-This organization is composed of "Old Boys" of the Origi- nal Old Lincoln School, which formerly stood on 5th near Market, and was opened in 1865. The associa- tion is formed for the purpose of keeping alive the memories of the early days. The only requisite for membership is that the applicant shall have attended that school, whether as a graduate or not, at least thirty-three years before applying for membership. The period regulating membership is advanced one year at each annual banquet, which is held on Lin- coln's Birthday, Feb. 12. The association has under
taken the work of erecting a memorial of Lincoln in the Civic Center, which will also perpetuate the fact that the first statue to Lincoln ever erected was that which stood before the Old Lincoln Grammar School and was unveiled in 1866. Society of California Pioneers-Organized Aug- ust, 1850. 5 Pioneer Place, Pioneer Bldg., west side of 4th, bet. Market and Mission. The expressed objects of the Society are to collect and preserve information connected with the early settlement and subsequent history of the country, and to per- petuate the memory of those whose sagacity, energy and enterprise induced them to settle in the wilder- ness and become the founders of a new State. All who were in California prior to the first day of Janu- ary, 1850, are eligible to membership, and also the male descendants of members. Any who have ren- dered distinguished or important services to the Society or State may be admitted as honorary members. Regular meetings of the Society take place on the 1st Saturday of each month. Annual electionof officers on the 7th of July, the anniversary of the acquisition of California and of the raising of the American flag on its soil.
