A SKETCH
T. JOSEPH'S ACADEMY was founded in 1870 in the City of Oakland as a day school for boys. In 1880 it became a boarding school, and its steady growth made it necessary in the early part of the nineties to look for larger and more commodious quarters. Peralta Park Hotel was accordingly pur- chased and fitted up for the home of the Academy. In 1903 it was opened for the reception of boys, and has since won the unqualified endorsement of its patrons, who now come from all parts of California and other States, as well as from Mexico and Central America.
The buildings are commodious, including the main edifice and several outbuildings, among which is a fine gymnasium fitted up with modern appliances and stage scenery.

The grounds are spacious, containing about 15 acres well wooded and adapted to the requirements of the school. An excellent base- ball field is in close proximity and affords plenty of amusement and healthful outdoor exercise at nearly all seasons of the year. There are besides ball courts, lawn tennis grounds, etc.
The school year opens in September and closes in the last decade of June. Pupils are received at any time during the term, and classi- fied according to their age and capacity. No boy is received for less than one term of five months.
