PREFACE
Since the founding of Colorado College in 1874, upwards of 4,000 students have entered the school. Of these 438 have graduated. To understand this work, something of the early history of the College is necessary.
The records of Colorado College for the years 1874, 1875 and 1876 were burned. From that time up to about the year 1892 the records of all departments seem to have been kept in a single book. Little attempt was made to secure the addresses of students and in many instances even the names were incomplete. Not until about the year 1900 was there any definite system in the matter.
In the past the College has published no catalogues containing the names of . students. The records of the Dean's office, except for recent years, contain only the names given chronologically as the persons entered the school. No authentic list of students or even of holders of degrees has been made up from year to year; and the College has made little effort to keep in touch even with its graduates. If the situation in regard to the graduates is difficult, that of other past members of the school is ten times worse. Frequently nothing but the last name remains. Often the same name appears spelled in several different ways, and the names of several hundred have been secured from outside sources, of whom, apparently, the College has no record.
It is to be regretted that this work was not undertaken at an earlier date. Colleges and Universities throughout the United States consider it of the utmost importance that their Alumni and old students should be kept in touch with one another. Although a man may have been in the school for but a few months or even weeks, his spirit and interest may be as great and his influence for the school in the future may be as valuable as though he were the holder of a degree.
There is no attempt in this work to be original. The model followed is that of the Quinquennial Catalogue of the Harvard Law School, modified to meet changed conditions. Chief among the difficulties arising in the preparation of this list have been the lack of departmental classification in the College up to recent years; the changes of name through marriage and the fact that so many years had passed before any steps were taken in this matter.
In the preparation of this work I wish especially to acknowledge the aid and assistance of Miss Ella Taylor, '96, Mrs. Estrella Baker, '79, Prof. Edward S. Parsons, and Prof. James Kerr. Many others have assisted me, whom space forbids me to mention, but whose assistance I wish to acknowledge.
The expense of this work has been borne, in part, by the Alumni Association, but the amount of money raised from the Alumni has not equalled the time and effort it has cost. In the course of this work, letters have been sent to all of the graduates; frequently half a dozen letters to different addresses. The interest taken in this work has been most disappointing. Although most of the Alumni members must have received some one or more of the notices sent out, less than one-third have shown sufficient interest to fill out and return the cards which have been sent them. Unless greater interest is shown this work can never be completed.
The present list is but a fraction; less than one-tenth of the whole work. It is published largely in hope of arousing such interest as to render possible the publication of the balance. It is my hope ultimately to secure the correct name, the address and the occupation of every past member of the school. The com- pleted list to be similar to the present, with non-graduates classified according to the years in which they left the College.
The list is divided into three parts; in the first the names arranged alpha- betically by years; the second a geographical list, third a general index. A fourth list is appended, containing the names of those of whom I have no definite in- formation.
No attempt is made to give more than the occupation and address of any person. The lists of many other schools are more ambitious in this respect, and it is to be hoped that their example can some day be followed by Colorado College. HILDRETH FROST,
C. C. 'Or.

CHRONOLOGICAL LIST
In the following list the classes are each given by years, each class being alphabetically arranged. In this list, where a name has been changed by marriage, both names are given. It is not expected that these lists are either accurate or com- plete, but they are the best which can be prepared at this time.
Past members of the school and all others interested in the catalogue are urgently requested to report any errors discovered, changes of addresses, etc., to Hildreth Frost, Box 1336, Colorado Springs, Colorado.
