INTRODUCTORY.

DENVER DIRECTORY OFFICE, June 1, 1901.

Again we greet the public; this time with the Twenty-ninth Annual Volume of the Denver City Directory, which has little in outward appear- ance to distinguish it from that of the previous year; but a careful exam- ination of its contents will reveal many changes since our last issue, such as annually occur in all important commercial centers.

Very few, if any, of those who find the Directory so useful, have any conception of the arduous task of collecting and arranging the matter intelligibly, and the amount of labor and constant care required to pro- duce such a work-one from which the citizen or stranger, by referring to its pages, can readily find information of importance connected with the city. The work and data contained in this volume are of vital impor- tance to the public and the publishers have endeavored to make the facts accurate and complete. Elaborate and expensive preparations, together with a thorough knowledge of every locality within and adjacent to the city, are necessary for the successful publication of a Directory of a city like Denver. A properly prepared Directory is far more than a catalogue of names, addresses and occupations of citizens. It is a historic record, in detail, of a city's progress, and is frequently used by those contem- plating removal or making investments in a strange city for the purpose of satisfying themselves as to the measure of prosperity such city enjoys, and what the future is likely to develop for it.

We are pleased to note the rapid strides we are making in growth, both in population and in the building up of a city whose beauty, commer- cial importance and healthful climate is acknowledged universally.

This volume contains 76,560 names, which is an increase of 5,364 names over the year 1900, a fact on which we congratulate our citizens.

To our patrons, private citizens and the press who have cordially received us during so many years, we return our sincere thanks.
