Form of Admission to the Church.

ADDRESS.

CHRISTIAN FRIENDS-You have presented yourselves before God and this assembly, to make profession of your religious faith, to acknowledge the obligations of the everlasting covenant, and unite with the visible Church of Christ.

We trust that having well considered you justly appreciate the nature of this most solemn transaction ; and that in humble de- pendence on divine grace, you are prepared to make this public consecration of yourself to your God and Saviour.

Having examined and approved the Articles of Faith adopted by the Church, you will now profess the same before these wit- nesses.

ARTICLES OF FATFIE.

1. We believe in the existence of One Ever-living and True God, Sovereign and Unchangable, Infinite in Power, Wisdom and Goodness-subsisting in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Ghost.

2. We believe that the Scriptures of the Old and New Testa- ments were given by inspiration of God, and are the only infalli- ble rule of faith and practice.

3. We believe that God created all things by the word of his power ; and that he governs all his creatures, and all their actions, according to his most wise and eternal purpose; but in perfect accordance with human agency and accountability.

4. We believe that our first parents were created holy, but that they fell from that estate by sin ; and that, in consequence of their disobedience, all their posterity are not only prone to sin. but do become sinful and guilty before God.

5. We believe that regeneration is necessary in order to salva- tion ; that God has made an atonement by the sufferings and death of his Son, so that whosoever believeth in him need not perish, but have everlasting life; but that men are naturally so

-

6

averse to holiness, and so inclined to sin, that none ever do re- pent and believe in Christ, unless moved by the special influences of the Holy Ghost.

6. We believe that the divine law, enjoining supreme love to God, and love to our neighbor as ourselves, remains in full force under the gospel as the rule of duty, and we acknowledge our obligations to obey it.

7. We believe that our Lord Jesus Christ has a Church on earth, which, in its visible form, comprehends all those who credi- bly profess the faith of the Gospel; and its sacraments are Bap- tism and the Lord's Supper : and we acknowledge this to be a true Church of Christ.

8. We believe that the first day of the week is the Christian Sabbath, and is to be sanctified by an holy resting, all the day, even from such worldly employments and recreations as are law- ful on other days, and spending the whole time in the public and private worship of God ; except so much of it as is to be taken up in works of necessity and mercy.

9. We believe that it is the duty of every one to have daily communion with God, in his closet ; and of all heads of families to maintain family prayer, and faithfully to instruct their children and households in the requirements of religion, and to bring them to the public worship of God, on the Sabbath.

10. We believe that Christians, according to their ability, are under a sacred obligation to support the preaching of the Gospel at home ; and to contribute, as God prospers them, to spread the Gospel abroad.

11. We believe that all who profess faith in Christ are bound to depart from all iniquity, to live lives of holiness, and to bear a united testimony against intemperance, Sabbath-breaking, lewd- ness, oppression, profanity, and such like prevailing sins.

12. We believe that this life is the only state of probation for man ; that at the end of the world there will be a resurrection of all the dead, and a general judgment; from which the wicked will go away into everlasting punishment, and the righteous in- to life eternal.

Thus do you believe ?

COVENANT.

You will now enter into Covenant with God and his people.

Do you now avouch the Lord Jehovah to be your God ; Jesus Christ to be your Saviour : the Holy Spirit to be your Sanctifier ? Renouncing the dominion of the world over you, do you conse- crate your whole soul and body to the service of God ? Do you receive his word as the rule of your life, and, by his grace assist- ing you, will you persevere in this consecration unto the end ?

[The ordinance of Baptism, if not previously received, will here be ad- ministered.]

COVENANT WITH THE CHURCH.

[Here those who unite by letter will rise in their places.]

Do you solemnly covenant and agree to study the peace, purity and liberty of this Church ; to love and watch over its members as your brethren ; to receive from them all needful care and ad- monition ? Will you labor together with us in the maintenance of its public worship and ordinances : submit to necessary dis- cipline, and avoid all causes of scandal and offense, so long as in the Providence of God you shall continue among us ?

[The members of the church will here rise.]

We, then, the members of this Church, do joyfully and cordial- ly receive you into our number. We promise to bear with you, to love, to edify, and by all means in our power to advance you in the Divine life. " And now unto him that is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presence of his glory, with exceeding joy ; to the only wise. God our Saviour, be glory and majesty, dominion and power. both now and ever. Amen."

Ecclesiastical rinciples and Rules.

I. ECCLESIASTICAL PRINCIPLES.

RULE J. Independence .- This Church, so far as relates to its internal organization, and to matters of doctrine, order and dis- cipline, is independent; and amenable to no other ecclesiastical body, except by its consent, and in accordance with regular and established Congregational principles.

RULE 8. Dropping Members .- Members may be dropped from the roll of the Church, with or without notice to them, as may be deemed just, by a vote of the Church upon the recommendation of the Examining Committee, either upon their own application, or, in case they have abandoned their connection with the Church by prolonged absence or otherwise, upon the application of any other person.
