SECOND CONGREGATIONAL CHURCH.
Confession of faith.
ART. 1.
We believe in the existence of the one only living and true God, three persons in one God, Father, Son, and Holy Ghost; the same in substance, and equal in power and glory ; who is possessed of all possible perfection and divine excellence ; the Creator and Preserver of all things, as He has revealed himself in the Holy Scriptures.
HIcar, O Israel : The Lord our God is one Lord ; and thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might. Deut. 6 : 4, 5.
I am the Lord, and there is none else ; there is no God besides me. Is. 45 : 5.
Thou believest that there is one God ; thou doest well ; the devils also believe and tremble. . James 2 : 19.
I am the Lord; that is my name ; and my glory will I not give to another, neither my praise to graven images. Is. 42 : 8.
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. All things were made by him. John 1 :1,3.
And when he bringeth in the first begotten into the world, he saith, and let all the angels of God worship him. Hleb. 1 : 6.
Thus saith the Lord, cursed be the man that trusteth in man and maketh flesh his arm, and whose heart departeth from the Lord. Blessed is the man that trusteth in the Lord. and whose hope the Lord is. Jer. 17 : 5, 7.

MANUAL OF THE
Kiss the Son, lest he be angry, and ye perish from the way, when his wrath is kindled but a little. Blessed are all they that put their trust in Him. Psalms 2: 12.
But Peter said, Ananias, why hath Satan filled thine heart to lie to the Holy Ghost, and to keep back part of the price of the land ? Thou hast not lied unto men but unto God. Acts, 5 : 3, 4.
Goye, therefore, and teach all nations, baptising them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost. Mat. 28 : 19.
Thou, even thou art Lord alone ; thou hast made heaven, the heaven of heavens with all their host, the earth and all things that are therein, the seas and all that is therein, and thou preserveth them all, and the host of heaven worshippeth thee. Nehemiah 9: 6.
ART. II.
We believe the writings of the Old and New Tes- taments to be the Word of God, a perfect rule of Faith and Practice, and able to make us wise unto salvation, through faith in Christ Jesus.
We have also a more sure word of prophecy, whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts ; Know- ing this first, that no prophecy of the Scripture is of any private interpretation. For the prophecy came not in old time, by the will of man ; but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost. 11 Peter, 1 : 19, 21.
Continne thou in the things which thou hast learned, and hast been assured of, knowing of whom thou hast learned them ; and that from a child thou hast known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation, through faith which is in Christ Jesus. All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness ; That the man of God may be perfect, thorough- ly furnished unto all good works. 1I Tim. 3 : 14, 17.
Search the Scriptures ; for in them ye think ye have eternal life. and they are they which testify of me. John 5 : 39.

SECOND CONGREGATIONAL CHURCH.
ART. III.
We believe, by transgression, all mankind have fallen from their original righteousness and com- munion with God, and so are become dead in tres- passes and sins, and are justly liable to his wrath and displeasure forever.
. And the Lord God commanded the man saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely cat; But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not cat of it ; for in the day that thou eatest thereof, thou shalt surely die. And when the woman saw that the tree 'was good for food, and that it was pleas- ant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof and did eat ; and gave also unto her husband with her, and he did cat. And they heard the voice of the Lord God walking in the garden, in the cool of the day; and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the Lord God, amongst the trees of the garden. Gen. 2: 16, 17, and 3 : 6, 8.
God hath made man upright ; but they have sought out many inventions. Eccles. 7 : 29.
By one man sin entered into the world and death by sin ; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned. Rom. 5 : 12.
That which is born of the flesh is flesh ; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. John, 3: 6.
Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these : adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, idolatry, witch- craft, hatred, variance, emulation, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings and such like ; of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God. But the fruit of the spirit is love, joy, peace, long-suffering, gen- tleness, goodness, faith, meckness, temperance ; against such there . is no law. Gal. 5: 19, 23.
So then they that are in the flesh, cannot please God. But ye are not in the flesh, but in the spirit, if so be that the spirit of God dwell in you. Rom. S : 8, 9. 2

Verily, Verily, I say unto thee, except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. Marvel not that I said unto thee, ye must be born again. John, 3 : 3, 7.
What fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness ? and what communion hath light with darkness? and what concord hath Christ with Belial ? Il Cor. 6 : 11, 15.
· ART. IV.
We believe that the Lord Jesus, by His mediation and death, has made atonement for the sins of the world ; and that, by the effectual call of God's free and sovereign grace alone, through the quickening, renewing and sanctifying influences of the Holy Spirit, are any restored to spiritual life, become par- takers of the faith of the Gospel, and entitled to its special ordinances.
Without shedding of blood is no remission. When Jesus, therefore, had received the vinegar he said, IT Is FINISHED : and he bowed his head and gave up the ghost. John, 19 : 30.
And he is the propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world. I John, 2 : 2.
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to his abundant mercy, hath begotten us again unto a lively hope, by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead-To an inheritance incorruptible and undefiled, and that fadeth not away, reserved in heaven for you,
Who are kept by the power of God, through faith, unto salvation. I Pet. 1: 3-5.
Behold the Lamb of God which taketh away the sin of the world. John 1: 29.
You hath he quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins. Eph. 2 : 1.
By grace are ye saved through faith ; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God : Not of works, lest any man should boast. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus, unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in

them. Now, in Christ Jesus, ye who sometimes were far off, are made nigh by the blood of Christ. Now therefore ye are no more strangers and foreigners, but fellow-citizens with the saints, and of the household of God, and are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone ; In whom all the building, fitly framed together, groweth into a holy temple in the Lord; In whom ye also are builded to- gether for a habitation of God through the spirit. Eph. 2: 8-10; 13, 19-22.
If any mun be in Christ, he is a new creature ; old things are passed away ; behold, all things are become new. Il Cor. 5 : 17.
Let a man examine himself, and so let him cat of that bread, and drink of that cup. For he that cateth and drinketh unwor- thily, eateth and drinketh damnation [judgment] to himself, not discerning the Lord's body. For this cause, many are weak and sickly among you, and many sleep. I Cor. 11 : 28-30.
Examine yourselves, whether. ye be in the faith ; prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be reprobates ? II Cor. 13: 5.
The cup of blessing which we bless, is it not the communion of the body of Christ ? Ye cannot drink the cup of the Lord, and the cup of devils ; ye cannot be partakers of the Lord's table, and of the table of devils. I Cor. 10: 16, 21.
Then shall ye begin to say, we have caten and drunken in thy presence and thou hast taught in our streets. But he shall say, I tell you, I know you not, whence ye are; depart from me all ye workers of iniquity. There shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth, when ye shall see Abraham, and Isaac and Jacob, and all the prophets in the kingdom of God, and you yourselves thrust out. Luke, 13 : 26-28.

Why call ye me Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say ? Luke, 6: 46.
In Christ Jesus, neither circumcision availeth anything nor un- circumcision ; but a new creature. Gal. 6 : 15.
In Christ Jesus neither circumcision availeth anything or uncir- cumcision ; but faith which worketh by love. Gal. 5: 6.
As the body, without the spirit, is dead. so faith, without works, is dead also. Shew me thy faith without thy works, and I will shew thee my faith by my works. James, 2 : 26, 18.
Be ye therefore followers of God as dear children. For ye were sometimes darkness, but now are ye light in the Lord ; walk as the children of light ; (For the fruit of the spirit is in all good- ness and righteousness, and truth ;) Proving what is acceptable unto the Lord ; and have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them. For it is a shame even to speak of those things which are done of them in secret. Eph. 5 : 1, 8-12.
Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing ; and I will re- ceive you, and will be a father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Ahnighty. II Cor. 6: 17, 18.
Bring forth, therefore, fruits meet for repentance. Mat. 3 : 8.
Ye are the light of the world. Let your light so shine before men that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven. Mat. 5: 14, 16.
He that endureth to the end shall be saved. Mat. 10 : 22.
Blessed is that servant, whom his Lord, when he cometh shall find so doing. Mat. 21 : 46.
I know thy works, that thou art neither cold nor hot ; I would that thou wert cold or hot. So then, because thon art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth. Rev. 3: 15, 16.

ART. VI.
We believe that God hath appointed a day in which He will judge the world in righteousness, by Jesus Christ, and whereby He will magnify the glory of His merey in the salvation of the elect, and of His justice in the eternal condemnation of the finally im- penitent.
God now commandeth all men everywhere to repent ; Because he hath appointed a day, in which he will judge the world in righteousness, by that man whom he hath ordained, whereof he hath given assurance unto all men, in that he hath raised him from the dead. Acts, 17: 30, 31.
For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad. 11. Cor. 5 : 10.
Whose fan is in his hand, and he will thoroughly purge his floor, and will gather the wheat into his garner; but the chaff he will burn with fire unquenchable. Luke 3 : 17.
When the Son of man shall come in his glory, and all the holy angels with him, then shall he sit upon the throne of his glory.
And before him shall be gathered all nations ; and he shall sep- arate them one from another, as a shepherd divideth his sheep from the goats.
And he shall set the sheep on his right hand but the goats on the left. Then shall the King say unto them on his right hand, Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world. Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, unto ever- lasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels. And these shall go away into everlasting punishment ; But the righteous into life eternal. Mat. 25 : 31-16.
And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie.
Whereunto he called you by our gospel, to the obtaining of the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ. II Thes. 2 : 11, 14.

You do now, relying upon the grace of God for assistance, solemnly give yourself to Him through the Lord Jesus Christ, to be His servant forever, devoted to His fear, and to walk in all His commands. And you hereby unite yourself with this Church, in the bonds of the Gospel, as a particular church of Christ, engaging also by His grace to walk with us as becometh a member of Christ, in the fellowship of the Gospel, in all its ordinances and institutions. You also hereby express your desire to unite in Christian fellowship with all the regular Churches of Christ, taking the Word of God for your guide, as God in His Providence shall give you opportunity. Hereby acknowledging your great unworthiness, and utter insufficiency, in yourself, for any acceptable service, you look to the free grace of God, through Christ, for pardon, acceptance, and all needfulassist- ance, and, by Divine Grace, you do now deliberately and solemnly ratify this Church Covenant.

Beloved Friends :
The most solemn act of your life is now to be performed. Publicly you are to confess and ratify the vows made in secret. In this house, consecrated to God's service, before these witnesses of your faith, in the presence of those unseen spirits who have re- joiced over your repentance, you have come to de- clare yourselves disciples of the Saviour, and to enter into communion with Ilis Church. Gladly now you dedicate yourself to Him whose blood cleans- eth from all sin. Sacred will ever be the mem- ories which cluster about this hour. The thoughts, the purposes you here profess, will never be forgotten, and when called to stand before the judgment seat of Christ, this scene will be reviewed. Faithful to God, His grace and love shall keep you.
