The Art of Saving

If thrift does not come natural to you, cultivate it. Realize the fact that every man who has a dollar to put aside is a capitalist.

We earnestly urge you to open an account with this bank for any amount T HE prosperity you enjoy today does not guarantee your prosperity tomorrow. Changes in the business and industrial world may later on deprive you of your present measure of prosperity.

TRADE' 1835 MARK R. WALLACE"

STERLING

1835

ROBERT WALLACE

On June 2, 1835, Robert Wallace, silversmith, started in business for himself. In his little workshop on the Quinnipiac was fashioned the first nickel-silver spoon made in this country

R OBERT WALLACE was a man of broad vision. He had an idea in which he believed, and as he believed also in himself he diligently applied all his mental, physical and financial re- sources to the development of that idea. It was inevitable that success came, that growth followed, gradually but nevertheless surely.

It was not long before the little frame workshop gave way to brick construction. Then, year by year, additions and enlargements became necessary until today finds the development of Robert Wallace's idea in the immense plant shown below.

When we of the present look back and review the growth of this business it is with a feeling closely akin to reverence for the man who instituted and fostered the ideals and principles which are largely responsible for the great measure of success we now enjoy. To us has fallen the sacred trust of sustaining these same ideals and principles. They are simple but fundamentally sound:

To make a good product.

To strive continually to better that product.

To gain, keep and perpetuate the confidence, respect and satisfaction of our customers.

It is eminently gratifying to know that in these things we can point to actual accomplishments of which we are proud. The great ambitions and purposes of Robert Wallace are with us still, and we are ever building to insure their continuance in the hearts and hands of those who will follow.
