Indians by ye name of Wonuncopauk pond said pond lieth easterly of ye road from Weataug to Sackets Farm said land was laid out to Ezekiel Ashly and John Pell 27 Oct. 1731." Mch. 3, 1739/40, Wolcott assigns his right in this land to "my late wife Lydia" (she "having lately obtained a Divorce") and her heirs, in view of purchase hav- ing been made with her money.

This partition line was run by Edmund Lewis, Surveyor of Fair- field Co. and "Thos. Knowls of Woodbury and Thos. Hill of Fairfield to carry the chain." On presentation of a memorial from the town, by Samuel Bellowes of Sal., the town's agent to Gen- eral Assembly at New Haven, 2d Thursday Oct. 1743, the Assembly granted a land tax on a basis of £6 per right (college, school and ministerial lands excepted) and 4d. per acre on all "Counterey Grants" laid out unimproved in said town for 3 years next thereafter ensuing, and appt'd Josiah Stoddar collector to pay the monies to the Town Treas., annually, to be used for support of "an orthodox minister," and the building of a meeting house.
