building like the old New Haven Y. M. C. A. into an ultra modern office structure with equal facility. Within the category of homes it may be permissible to include club houses and one of the finest buildings of this kind erected in Connecticut in recent years is the Waterbury Club House, a handsome colonial structure designed by Cass Gilbert and built by The Sperry Engineering Company."
On the 24th of November, 1909, in East Haven, Connecticut, Mr. Sperry was married to Miss Margery E. Thompson, a daughter of Edward F. and Charlotte (Landcraft) Thompson. The children of this union are: Elizabeth Cowles, who was born in 1912; and William Thompson, born in 1913.
Mr. Sperry is a member of the Second Company, Governor's Foot Guards of Company F, New Haven Grays. His political views are indicated by his affiliation with the Young Men's Republican Club and Union League. Along social lines he is identified with the Quinnipiac Club, New Haven Country Club, the Golf Club, Danbury Club, and the Danbury Rotary Club. He was at one time president of the Connecticut Society of Engi- neers, of which he is still a member. A worthy exemplar of the teachings and purposes of the Masonic fraternity, he belongs to Wooster Lodge, No. 79, F. & A. M .; Franklin Chapter, No. 2, R. A. M .; Harmony Council, No. 8, R. A. M .; New Haven Com- mandery, No. 2, K. T .; New Haven Chapter, Rose Croix; Lafay- ette Commandery, A. A. S. R .; and Pyramid Temple, A. A. O. N. M. S. Early in his career Mr. Sperry realized that one must be willing to pay the price of success, which is gained only at the cost of earnest, self-denying effort, and what he has accomplished represents the fit utilization of his innate powers and talents. His residence is now in Danbury.
GEORGE JOSEPH FINN, D. D. S.
Dr. George Joseph Finn, engaged in the practice of dentistry at Shelton, was born in Derby, Connecticut, March 7, 1885, de- voting his early life largely to the acquirement of a public school education and to further study in a preparatory school, while in 1908 he won the degree of Bachelor of Arts from St. Bonaven-

ture's College at Allegany, New York. Having determined to make the practice of dentistry his life work, he then enrolled as a student in Temple University at Philadelphia, from which he was graduated with the D. D. S. degree in 1911. In the same year he opened an office in Shelton, where he has since remained, and through the intervening period, covering eighteen years, he has made steady progress, at all times keeping in touch with the latest scientific researches and discoveries of the profession and employing the most modern methods in his work.
On the 17th of March, 1919, Dr. Finn was married at Derby to Miss Elizabeth Brassiel and they are now parents of four children: George J., Jr., Catherine, Elizabeth and Philip. Dr. and Mrs. Finn attend St. Joseph's Catholic church and he is a member of the Elks lodge at Derby. Social and genial by nature, he has gained many friends, while his enviable professional stand- ing is the direct outcome of his thorough study and close applica- tion to his duties.
JOSEPH CARRINE
Joseph Carrine, a well known business man of Danbury, has contributed materially to the success of the Friedman Fur Com- pany as its manager, in which capacity he has served continuously since 1916. A native of Syria, he was born in Mount Lebanon in 1887 and pursued his education in the grammar schools of his birthplace. When a lad of thirteen years, he crossed the Atlantic to the United States and entered a school to learn the trade of bookbinding. On attaining his majority, in 1908, he became asso- ciated with the White Plains (New York) courthouse and there engaged in bookbinding. Subsequently he spent some time in service with the city bookbinder of Waterbury, Connecticut, and afterward was similarly engaged in Bridgeport, Connecticut, and New Rochelle, New York. Eventually, however, he determined to abandon that work and accordingly went to Fall River, Massachu- setts, to learn the fur business under James Marsh.
On returning to Fairfield county Mr. Carrine became identi- fied with the American Hatters & Furriers Company, Inc., of Danbury, serving under Charles Parks until 1916, when he was

appointed manager of the Friedman Fur Company on North street, which he has thus represented throughout the intervening period of twelve years. His thorough knowledge of the fur busi- ness has constituted an important factor in the growth and suc- cess of the enterprise with which he is associated and he enjoys a well earned reputation among furriers of this part of the state. Mr. Carrine has never regretted his determination to try his for- tune in the new world, for here he has made steady progress in the field of business and has also won many warm friends in social relations.
JOHN A. ZWYNER
Among the substantial business men of Danbury is numbered John A. Zwyner, a native of Germany, who is widely and favor- ably known as the executive head of the Eastern Fur Products Company and also has other important interests. In 1926 he entered the hatters' fur business and in two years has become one of the leading furriers in this section of the country. He has a large factory on Chestnut street in Danbury and is also successfully managing the business of the Mutual Gelatine & Glue Company, likewise a local firm. As a business man he is energetic, efficient and straightforward, and in matters of citi -. zenship he is loyal, progressive and public-spirited. Mr. Zwy- ner has ever been a close and discriminating student of the vital problems and questions of the day and is extremely modest in his views and manner.
