It will be remembered that Colonel N. G. Osborn of the "New Haven Journal-Courier" is the editor and that the advisory board, concerned in the publication, consists of Judge W. S. Case, State Librarian G. S. Godard, and ex-Governor Roberts of this city, Hon. F. J. Kingsbury of Waterbury, Captain Edward Marsh of Bridgeport, Jonathan Trumbull of Norwich, so long presi- dent of the "S. A. R." and Colonel Osborn himself. As these volumes increase in number, the possessor of the series finds him- self with a catalogue of active Connecticut citizens right at hand. In a newspaper office, for instance, it is simply indispensable. It is sure to be of use in any place, for one never can tell who will next come into prominence in the unfolding of events, and here is a sketch of the man, and often a fine picture of him, too.
MEN OF MARK IN CONNECTICUT.
The third volume of this excellent collection of biographies of Connecticut men is at hand and will soon be followed by the fourth and last.
The plan of the work has been fully described heretofore and the skill and care with which the sketches are prepared have received much commendation. To all this little remains to be added. A sound and comprehensive scheme was made at the outset, and the first volume was merely the first specimen of the complete work. The whole work differs from others in being more carefully edited and also more attractive to the eye. Most of the offenses against good taste which are so commonly found in books of this kind were made impossible by the very nature of the editorship which was provided for the undertaking, and Colonel Osborn as editor-in-chief and all those who have had a share in the execution of the task are to be congratulated on the virtual accomplishment of a large and useful undertaking.
The four volumes will be of the highest value in all news- paper offices, and wherever there is occasion for prompt and ac- curate information as to men who are more or less conspicuous in the state or in their respective communities.
The book is published by William R. Goodspeed, at Hartford. and is from the press of The Case, Lockwood & Brainard Co. -Hartford Times.
