POLK & CO., publishers of more than 850 city, county, state and national Directories (pub- lishers of the Clearwater, Dunedin and Largo Directory since 1920), present to subscribers and the general public, this, the 1960 edition of the Clearwater, Dunedin and Largo City Directory, which also includes Baywood Shore, Belleair, Clearwater Beach, Dunedin Isles, Harbor Bluffs, Highland Park and Safety Harbor. Clearwater, Dunedin and Largo's steady, consistent growth has reached the point where, with this edition, it has become necessary to change the style of the Directory to the metropolitan type, which will greatly facilitate reference use.

Confidence in the growth of Clearwater, Dunedin and Largo's industry., population and wealth, and in the advancement of their civic and social activities, will be maintained as sections of this Directory are consulted, for the Directory is a mirror truly reflecting Clearwater, Dunedin and Largo to the world.

Four Major Departments

The four major departments are arranged in the following order :-

I. THE YELLOW PAGES constitute the first major department of the Directory. This embraces a complete list of the names and addresses of the business and professional concerns of Clearwater, Dunedin and Largo, arranged in alphabetical order under appropriate headings-a catalog of all the activities of Clearwater, Dunedin and Largo. Preceding this catalog, likewise grouped under appropriate headings, are the advertisements and business cards of firms and individuals desiring to present a more complete list of their products or services than is possible in the catalog itself. The Yellow Pages rep- resent reference advertising at its best, and merit the attention of all buyers and sellers seeking sources of supply or markets for goods. In progressive communities like Clearwater, Dunedin and Largo, the necessity of having this kind of information up-to-date and always immediately available, is obvious. The Directory is the common intermediary between buyer and seller, and plays an important role in the daily activities of the commercial, industrial and professional world.

II. THE ALPHABETICAL LIST OF NAMES of residents and business and professional concerns is the second major department, printed on white paper. This is the only record in existence that aims to show the name, marital status, occupation and address of each adult resident of Clearwater, Belleair, Clearwater Beach and Safety Harbor, and the name, official personnel, nature and address of each firm and corporation in the communities. Similar lists for Dunedin, Baywood Shore and Dunedin Isles, also Largo, Harbor Bluffs and Highland Park appear farther on in the Directory.

III. THE DIRECTORY OF HOUSEHOLDERS, INCLUDING STREET AND AVENUE GUIDE, for Clear- water, is the third major department, printed on green paper. In this section the numbered streets are arranged in numerical order, followed by the named streets arranged in alphabetical order; the numbers of the residences and business concerns are arranged in numerical order under the name of each street, and the names of the householders and concerns are placed opposite the numbers. The names of the in- tersecting streets appear at their respective crossing points on each street. Special features of this section are the designation of tenant-owned homes and the listing of the telephone numbers. Similar Guides for Dunedin and Largo appear farther on in the Directory.

IV. THE NUMERICAL TELEPHONE DIRECTORY, on blue paper, is the fourth major department, covering Clearwater, Dunedin and Largo.

The Directory reflects the achievements and ambitions of the community, depicting in unbiased terms what it has to offer as a place of residence, as a business location, as a resort and as an educa- tional center. General Review

Famed as Florida's "Springtime City" and "Summer City on the Gulf," Clearwater is the seat of government for "Peerless Pinellas County," and visitors from throughout the world have proclaimed it one of the most beautiful communities in the U. S.

Set like a jewel on the highest coastal point in Florida, Clearwater is a city of hospitable homes, broad streets and avenues, and magnificent vistas of seascape and tropical beauties unsurpassed on the North American Continent. In many respects, Clearwater is a city untouched by the hand of the ruthless developer, yet possessing in abundance the metropolitan chic of many larger tourist centers. There is anunmistakeable charm found in Clearwater, reminiscent of the "Old South. " Here one finds the spread- ing oaks, festooned with Spanish moss. Here, too, the flaming poinsettia and hibiscus paint backgrounds with lavish color.
