1906/07 PUBLISHERS' REMARKS.

With this our first issue of a directory for Key West we have endeavored to give to the citizens and to the public in general a complete city guide.

Owing to the natural growth of the city the omission of numbers on some houses has put us to a slight inconvenience, but neither time nor expense has been spared to make this work as complete as possible.

We feel confident that the book will be found as nearly correct as a publication of this kind can be made

We expect to publish a directory for Key West every two years and feel that with the advent of the Florida East Coast Railroad the immediate growth and natural business increase of the town will demand a book biannually.

A careful estimate based upon the names con- tained in this volume indicates that Key West has today a permanent population of about 25,000. This issue of the directory contains by actual count 7997 names of people over the age of sixteen years. This multiplied by 3, our lowest estimate makes a total of 23991 and if indications can in any way be relied upon the coming of the railroad will give to Key West an impetus that will in a few years place it among Florida's leading cities.

Respectfully,

THE PUBLISHERS.
