If the sun shines in Florida, it shines in Clearwater and on Clearwater Bay.

Clearwater's seven packing houses ship strawberries, figs, grapes, guavas, kumquats, limes, lemons and all var- ieties of vegetables. Tomatoes, cucumbers, potatoes, peas, beans, lettuce, corn, sugar beets, cabbage and many other varieties are grown profitably the year round in the fertile soil of Pinellas Co.

INTRODUCTION

Clearwater and Pinellas County have led for years in the production of grapefruit and the finest groves in the land are located just outside the city limits. Seven modern fruit packing houses where the fruit is prepared and packed for shipment, do a thriving business in Clearwater, and there are twenty within motor-truck hauling distance. Over a million boxes of grapefruit and oranges are shipped out of Pinellas County each year, which bring into the country approximately four millions of dollars.

There are three banks and trust companies in Clear- water with a capital of $235,000, surplus and profits $150,- 000 and deposits of $2,799,000. Two newspapers are pub- lished both daily the News and Sun.

CLEARWATER BOARD OF TRADE

The Board of Trade is a live organization which has had much to do with the progress of the city and is re- sponsible for many of its more modern tendencies. It is representative of the commercial, professional and manu- facturing interests of the city and had its inception in a desire to promote their growth in home building, in manu- facturing industries, in civic improvement and in commer- cial importance.

MUNICIPAL PUBLICITY Advertising Clearwater

An important function of the Directory is to set forth the characteristics and advantages of the city as a place of residence, as a business location, as an industrial site and as an educational center. The Directory acts as a mirror, reflecting all that is noteworthy in the city in the above respects. In order to spread this information re- garding the city broadcast over the country the publishers place copies of this issue of the Directory in Directory Libraries which are maintained in all the larger cities of the country, where they are readily available for reference use by the public. There they serve as perpetual advertise- ments of Clearwater, for business men the country over realize that the City Directory represents the community as it really is.

The publishers take this opportunity of thanking the citizens for valuable assistance rendered in the way of furnishing information concerning themselves and their friends for this Directory, and also the public-spirited and progressive business and professional men for support given in the way of patronage.
