of water frontage within its corporate limits, including pic- turesque bayous reaching into the heart of the city. Adding to its beauty, among many tropical trees, shrubs and flowers, are numerous jacaranda trees, which, when in bloom, dot the city with splashes of lavender splendor. It is worth a trip to Tarpon Springs to see them!

Often referred to as "The Venice of the South" because of its similarity to old Venice, Tarpon Springs is bounded on the north by the Anclote River, on the east by Lake Butler, and on the west by the Gulf of Mexico.

CLIMATE: Climatic conditions the year around are un- excelled by any other section, not only in this country, but in other countries of the world as well. It is pleasantly warm, with plenty of sunshine during the winter months, while there is always a cool breeze off the Gulf.

WATER: Excellent water is supplied by the City from deep wells.

TRAVEL FACILITIES: Served by the Atlantic Coast Line Railroad; busses of the Gulf Coast Motor Lines, Inc., and Florida Motor Lines, and excellent paved highways connecting with all parts of Florida.

CHURCHES: Churches of practically every denomina- tion are found here, including Baptist, Methodist, Catholic, Presbyterian, Episcopal, Universalist, Greek Orthodox and Church of God.

SCHOOLS: Accredited elementary and junior-senior high schools, housed in modern buildings with up-to-date equipment. A high school band, which has on several oc- casions received high honors in competitive playing.

HOMES, HOSPITALS, etc .: Many beautiful homes and homesites, a municipal hospital, accommodations of all kinds, and many forms of sports and entertainment are en- joyed here.

SPORTS: One of the finest 18-hole golf courses on the west coast of Florida is found here. Shuffleboard courts; tennis and other forms of entertainment at Coburn City Park, where there is also a boat landing, picnic grounds, fishing, both fresh and salt-water, and other water sports; boat trips on river and Gulf. Tourist activities include a tourist club with several hundred members who enjoy en- tertainments, card parties, needlework clubs and other ac- tivities especially arranged by various groups.

FISHING (fresh and salt-water): A favorite sport in Tarpon Springs is fishing. Salt-water fishing in the bayous or river is within walking distance of the business section. Both are available for party rental by the day or for open parties. Rowboats may be rented by the hour or by the day.

AGRICULTURE: Citrus groves dot the surrounding ter- ritory, and in the vicinity also are grown many other fruits and practically all vegetables that are found elsewhere in Florida. Such products are plentiful in season, and are available almost the year around. Poultry is raised exten- sively in this vicinity.

HOTELS: Excellent hotels offering every comfort for the visitor-by the day, week, or month-at moderate rates. The leading hotels include the Hotel Villa Plumosa (Ameri- can Plan), the Hotel Stratford and the Hotel Arcade (Euro- pean Plan), all of which will be glad to give their rates on

TOURIST CAMPS: Registered tourist camps and trailer facilities are available for those who prefer them.

CLUBS: In Tarpon Springs are numerous civic, frater- nal and social clubs and organizations representing all lead- ing bodies of the country. Rotary and Lions are prominent here.

INDUSTRIES (sponge-fishing): Tarpon Springs is the center of the world's largest sponge market, with an annual income of more than $3,000,000. The waterfront presents a picture of the Near East, with the gayly painted Mediter- ranean-type sponge boats docked at the wharf, and the

narrow, crooked streets dotted with Greek coffee shops, restaurants, pastry shops and curio stores. The Greek vil- lage and sponge industry are outstanding attractions, and bring thousands of visitors to the city each year.

Other industries included in the trade territory are five citrus-packing houses, a citrus-canning plant, several ship- yards and ways, a custom chicken hatchery, an ice plant, five wholesale fish companies, sixteen sponge-packing houses, a bottling works, a tannery, a snakebite kit factory, and various other smaller industries. An important new in- dustry soon to take its place at the head of the list is a $3,500,000 chemical plant now under construction.

GREEK EPIPHANY CEREMONY: The Greek Orthodox Church, centuries old, with all its beauty of symbolism, retains many of its ecclesiastical and church customs and rites, among which is the ever-interesting Epiphany or "Greek Cross" ceremony commemorating the baptism of Christ, the descent of the Holy Spirit and the recovery of the Cross under Constantine. The Epiphany Ceremony is held here annually on Jan. 6. A crowd of thousands throngs the city for the festivity.

IF YOU ARE IN A

BUSINESS FOG

IN THE AFTERMATH OF WAR

Let the City Directory help guide you to reorientation. It is the natural key to things as they are after the great upheaval. A recent Directory will provide the basis by which business can obtain a new grip on markets and a new appraisal of prospects. \ Pre-war guides of nearly all kinds are deader than a dodo today. Business now enters a new era of great possibilities. The City Directory hews to the line without propaganda, and new editions of this service reveal the great physical changes that have come over cities and communities during the past five years.

Business Men Need Such Information in Such Times!

Out of Sight - Out of Mind * Out of Business

The importance of keeping firm and product names in the public eye is recognized by all business men. It is astonishing to see how a firm or product, however meritorious, will slip into the limbo of the forgotten if not persistently advertised.

The City Directory is the natural medium for keep- ing a business or product name in the spotlight. Insist on being well represented in its pages.
