PREFACE

The eighth annual edition of R. L. Polk & Co.'s Miami City Directory, here- with presented, is issued with the assurance that all the varied information desirable in a modern, first-class directory of a growing city is given with specific accuracy and that it is everything which the best skill in directory making has been able to produce.

The actual worth of the City Directory is becoming more and more generally understood every year. Its value as a book of reference and as a guide to all the residences and business houses, streets, public buildings, churches, schools, banks, societies and organizations, and, in fact, all the institutions of the city, has always been recognized. As a history of the progress of the city and as an unequalled advertisement of its resources, the directory is growing in popular favor year by year. The scope of this volume has in nowise been reduced and embraces all the features heretofore familiar to the directory user.

Notwithstanding an unusually "dull summer" and an almost complete cessa- tion of building activities, Miami's population has steadily increased. This issue of the Directory contains 12,685 names and by usng the customary multiple of 21/2, a population of 31,713 is shown for Miami.

The publishers extend their thanks to the public for the support and co-operation in furnishing the necessary data for the work.

Respectfully,

February 15, 1919.

R. L. POLK & CO.,

Publishers.
