Foreign Rates


Rates on letters to all countries except Great Britain, Germany by direct route, Cuba, Mexico and Canada is 5c for the first ounce or fraction thereof and


3c for every additional ounce or fraction thereof Post cards 2c each


Letters addressed to Germany and prepaid with only a 2c stamp will be held for steam- ers sailing direct to Germany, and will not be dispatched by way of England


Return postage may be prepaid from certain countries by use of the prepaid postage coupon on sale at the stamp window Inquiries should be made at the postoffice concerning the mail- ing of packages to foreign countries


Unmailable Matter


Liquids, unless properly packed in liquid-proof cases contain- ing some absorbent matter, such as cotton or felt. Spirits, wines, and inflammable mat- ter, explosives, poisons of any kind, glass (unless securely packed to prevent breakage) and postal cards containing ground glass, mica or sand, or any like substance, unless en- closed in a tightly sealed en- velope and having the stamp affixed on the outside of the envelope


All mail should bear the return card of the sender giving the street address, and great care should be used to see that mail is properly and legibly ad- dressed, also that the prop- er postage must be paid. Care- ful observance of these in- structions will prevent many a complaint

Parcels may be mailed in quantities of not less than 250 identical pieces without stamps affixed, the postage being paid in money Merchandise must be securely packed so as to prevent break- age or the wrapper becoming detached and should be plainly addressed on the wrapper it- self. Any articles having sharp points or edges should have them so protected as to prevent injuries to persons handling same


It is required by the Depart- ment that every parcel bear the return address of the sender, and that same be de- posited at the postoffice of dispatch. Receipt is required from the addressee for all packages delivered
