Ames City Directory

With Four Rural Routes

JANUARY 1, 1922

Embracing a complete Alphabetical List of Business Firms and Private Citizens of Ames with the four Rural Routes run- ning from Ames; a miscellaneous Directory of City and County Officials, Churches, Public and Pri- vate Schools, Banks, Asylums, Hospitals, and Homes, Commercial Bodies, Secret So- cieties, and Street Guide, etc., etc.

Also a Complete CLASSIFIED BUSINESS DIRECTORY

MRS. M. W. LEAVERTON, Publisher 1827 Story Street (Copyright 1921) Boone, Iowa

PRICE $8.00

FOREWORD

This is the first volume of Ames City Directory with the four rural routes running from Ames published by Mrs. M. W. Leaverton.

The prime function of a City Directory is to furnish a list of all residents of a city, showing their occupation, place of business, and residence, compiled in strictly alphabetical order for ready reference.

All work on this edition has been done by local people. Great care has been taken throughout to make this the best directory Ames ever issued.

We realize that in no publication is accuracy more desirable or · necessary than in the Directory, therefore the greatest viligence has been used to have the spelling of names correct, as well as the occu- pation and address.

Sometimes a name may be incorrectly spelled in this Directory but only in unavoidable instances and usually this is not the fault of the name taker, but the result of absentmindedness or indifference of person furnishing the information.

Ames City Directory provides a vast fund of useful information on many other subjects. It has a complete list of all lines of business. It is a record of commercial, industrial, social, religious, and educa- tional activities of the city, and there is no other publication that is so sure an index of a city's development and standing.

POPULATION

There are in this volume 3,195 names in Ames proper, which multiplied by 21/2 to represent the names of married women and children who are not included in the above, indicates a population of 8,988 at the present time. This is practically the same amount that we counted from our canvass and is a conservative estimate of population.

I wish to express my sincere thanks for the many courtesies ex- tended to me in the compilation of this volume, and for the liberal patronage of business people.

Respectfully,

Mrs. M. W. LEAVERTON, Publisher
