JUDICIAL DISTRICTS OF IOWA TERRITORY.
FIRST DISTRICT.
Created January 21, 1839; composed of the counties of Henry, Van Buren, Lee and Des Moines. January 17, 1840, Jefferson county was organ- ized. February 17, 1843, Appanoose and Davis counties were attached to Van Buren, and Kishkakosh and Wapello counties to Jefferson, for judicial purposes. February 13, 1844, Wapello county was organized, and Kishka- kosh county and country west attached. February 15, 1844, Davis county was organized and Appanoose county attached. July 1, 1845, Kishkakosh county was organized. October 10, 1845, all country ceded by Sac and Fox Indians, west of Indian boundary line, was attached to the organized coun- ties. January 17, 1846, by act of territorial general assembly, the First district was defined as comprising the counties of Henry, Van Buren, Jef- ferson, Wapello, Kishkakosh, Davis, Lee and Des Moines.
