Has on file about 8,500 bound volumes of newspapers. Has a library of about 20,848 volumes on local history, Indian and civil war history, geneology, etc. Has a large collection of original manuscript materials collected from the early settlers of Iowa and noted authors and celebrities of America and England. Is the custodian of the archives of the state. Has a collection of 130 oil portraits of eminent Iowa citizens and a large collection of photographs and other portraits. Has a large museum illustrating the natural history of the state open to the public every day from 8:30 a. m. to. 5 p. m., except Sundays and holidays, when the hours are from 1 p. m. to 5 p. m.
