THE ARMY OF THE TENNESSEE.
Originally the Army of the District of Cairo; upon the con- centration of troops af Pittsburg Landing, it became the Army of the Tennessee, fighting as such at Shiloh. The Department of the Tennessee, was formed October 16, '62, and all the troops serving therein were placed under the command of Major-General U. S. Grant.
