The Rockford Public Library and Reading Rooms were organized June 24, 1872. The rooms are located in Postoffice block, and contain over 9,000 volumes of bound books, and about 100 periodicals and newspapers. It is open from 9 a. m. to 12:45 p. m., from 2 to 5:45 p. m., and 7 to S:30 p. m. Its officers are: Rev. Wilder Smith, president ; O. F. Barbour, secretary and treasurer; W. L. Rowlan I, librarian; Miss Lizzie William- son, assistant librarian.
