OFFICE OF COUNTY SUPERINTENDENT OF SCHOOLS
Fort Wayne, Aug. 20, 1915.
You are cordially invited to attend our coming county institute. You no doubt are looking for- ward to the event with pleasure. To the live teacher educational meetings are a thing of in- terest for it is there that he gets inspiration and practical instruction which will assist him to get good results in the schoolroom. It is also an oc- casion when teachers renew old acquaintances and form new ones. The value of institutes is so apparent that any exhortation to attend is hardly necessary. Have arranged for one even- ing session as you will see by the program. Try and arrange to be present at this evening session. Hoping that you will so arrange your work that you may be present at our coming annual meeting,
I am very sincerely yours, D. O. McCOMB, County Superintendent.

Teachers must attend every session of the in- stitute if they wish to receive compensation and credit for attending the county institute. Teach- ers are advised to enroll during the fore part of the week.
The Teachers' Reading Circle Books this year are: "The Rise of the American People" by Roland Greene Usher, and "The Teacher and the School" by Chauncy P. Colgrove. These books can be purchased at The Lehman Book & News Co., 128 E. Berry St., Fort Wayne.
A teacher from each school corporation, out- side the city of Fort Wayne, will be appointed to keep a roll of the attendance of the teachers of each school corporation. Teachers are re- quested to report twice a day to the roll keeper for Fort Wayne. A roll keeper for each school building will be appointed to keep a record of all teachers who taught in the same building last year.
The membership fee as usual this year will be $1.25. No examination fees are charged and it is in this way that the expenses of the institute are defrayed. The support given along this line as well as others has been excellent. All who attend the sessions of the institute and have no appointments should enroll. Vacancies often occur during the week and also after school has begun.

A Cracher's Creed
I believe in boys and girls, men and women of a great tomorrow; that whatsoever the boy soweth the man shall reap. I believe in the curse of ignorance, in the efficacy of schools, in the dignity of teaching, and the joy of serving another. I believe in wisdom as revealed in hu- man lives as well as in the pages of a printed book; in lessons taught not so much by precept as by example, in ability to work with the hands as well as to think with the head; in eve- rything that makes life large and lovely. I be- lieve in beauty in the school-room, in the home, in daily life and out-of-doors. I believe in laugh- ter, in love, in all ideals and distant hopes that lure us on. I believe that every hour of every day we receive a just reward for all we are and all we do. I believe in the present and its op- portunities, in the future and its promises, and in the divine joy of living: Amen.
EDWIN OSGOOD GROVER.
There and There
"The secret of education lies in respecting the child."-Emerson. .
"A human being is not, in any proper sense, a human being until he is educated."-Horrace Mann.
"The schoolmaster is abroad and I trust him, armed with his primer, against the soldier in full military array."-Brougham.
"There is still living that question as to which predominates in the life of the child, the forces of heredity or those of environment. It is a choice between fatalism and hope. The enlight- ened nations of the earth choose to spend mil- lions on the side of hope."-Bagley.
"A true education-what is it? It is awaken- ing a love for truth; giving a just sense of duty; opening the eyes of the soul to the great pur- pose and end of life."- Wayland.
"Education, briefly, is the leading of human minds and souls to what is right and best, and to making what is best out of them. And these two objects are always attainable together, and by the same means. The training which makes men happiest in themselves, also makes them most serviceable to others."- Ruskin.
