EXTRACTS FROM THE STANDING RULES.

THE young Ladies boarding in the Institution will rise at the ringing of the bell in the morning, adjust their rooms, and be engaged in study until breakfast. And it shall be the duty of the Matron to see that this Rule is complied with.

Collecting in any of the halls, boisterous talking and laughing, or the making of any unnecessary noise, in or out of study hours, will be considered a mis- demeanor.

The young Ladies will at no time be permitted to visit the Post Office, nor will any one be permitted to go to town oftener than once a week, and then only in company with some member of the Faculty, or some one appointed by some mem- ber of the Faculty.

During the Sabbath day, walking on the streets or commons for pleasure, col- lecting in each other's rooms .for idle conversation or amusement, as well as all practices prohibited in well bred Christian families, and receiving visits, are totally forbidden.

Each student will be expected to attend Church in the forenoon on the Sabbath, at such place of worship as her parents or guardian may desire.

If any young Lady shall know of any misdemeanor or violation of any of the rules of the Institution, by a scholar, and shall, when inquired of by any of the Faculty, refuse to give the name of such offender-she, by so refusing, shall be deemed guilty of a high offense, and be punished accordingly.

Each student will be required to have the lights in her room extinguished, and to retire at, or a quarter before 10 o'clock; and the Steward shall see that the house is closed at 10 o'clock.

. The young Ladies will not be permitted to make calls, except by permission of some member of the Faculty; nor to receive calls, except in the parlor, and in the presence of some member of the Faculty, or Matron ; and in no instance will they attend any ball or party or engage in any amusement forbidden by the Faculty.

No young Lady shall be permitted to contract debts or buy goods, without the written consent of their Parents or Guardians; and a copy of such permission shall be handed to the President.

Young Ladies boarding in the Institution will be under the protection of the Faculty. But the Faculty cannot be responsible for the deportment of young Ladies boarding out of the Institution, except during recitation hours.

?

REMARKS.

.

THE FORT WAYNE FEMALE COLLEGE, incorporated by the Legislature of the State in the year 1846, has now been in successful operation for nearly six years. It is situated in the most pleasant part of the city. commanding an extensive view of the town and country. It is under the patronage of the North and North-west Indiana Conferences.

The government of the Institution is mild, but decided. The Faculty will, at all times, exercise over the students a kind and parental supervision.

Pains will be taken to develop the intellectual powers, to train the mind to habits of close thought and reasoning, and to educate the heart in the purest principles of Christian morality.

A register of the merit of the students in their daily recitations is kept by each member of the Faculty ; also, a register of demerit, in which absences from daily recitations, and all violations of the rules and regulations of the College are punctu- ally recorded. An abstract of the standing of each student can be obtained by request of parent or guardian.

LITERARY SOCIETIES.

THERE are connected with the Institution two Literary Societies-Excelsior and Philosophian. These Societies have each a well selected Library, to which the members have weekly access.
