First Book of Commissioner's Orders Clinton County, Indiana 1830 - 1841
This Ledger-sized brown book was located in the top of the Clinton County Courthouse and is now in the possession of the Frankfort Community Public Library. The words and names have been copied as nearly as possible as they were written. The reader should notice that a double "s" is written as "fs" in most cases. The number of each entry seems to skip some numbers in places and repeat some later on. These are also copied as written in the book.
As you read through this book, notice that the amounts paid for the second courthouse are listed. The note from the Auditor's Office at the end of the entries is included since it lists the School Board for 1873 and also the name of the school superintendent for that year.
Many of the surnames listed herein are not found in other lists of our county at its very beginning. Therefore this is a very good source for locating early residents who may have moved on.
