PREFACE.
In presenting to the citizens of Fort Wayne, the first issue of "Wil- liams' Fort Wayne Directory, City Guide and Business Mirror," the compiler would express his thanks to that portion of them who have sustained the undertaking.
Those unacquainted with Directory publishing, have but a faint idea of the difficulties and obstacles to be encountered in obtaining and properly arranging the necessary information ; we, from a long experience, are perfectly familiar with them in detail, and, while ask- ing indulgence for a few errors which must necessarily have crept into the work, we claim that no city of like size in the United States, has a better Directory than the City of Fort Wayne. It con- tains two thousand six hundred and sixty-eight names .- A very good estimate of the present population may be made from this data.
Our intention is, if we meet with sufficient encouragement, to continue the publication of the Fort Wayne Directory -for the present biennially.
