PREFACE.

-0-

It is with becoming modesty that we present to the citizens of Fort Wayne the first issue of our "Fort Wayne City and Business Directory." Being aware that those who have pre- ceeded us have been perfectly acquainted with Directory pub- lishing, we make no pretensions to superiority, but with a pro- per spirit of confidence in ourself leave the book to be judged as it deserves by our subscribers.

P. S. At the burning of the Times Office, on the 24th of March we lost the whole of our first edition, which was com- pleted and ready for the Binder, But through the kindness and assistance of Mr. Dawson, editor of the Times, have been enabled to reproduce it.
