The Ideal Church Record.
INTRODUCTION.
In preparing this Record for the Church the publishing Agents have kept in mind three things .:
Ist. : COMPLETENESS. We have studied to embody in the book whatever will make the Record of value in every point, and for all time, and yet to omit whatever seemed to us superfluous, or of questionable value.
2d. SIMPLICITY. We have sought to make a book that does not require pages of explanatory. matter, or a knowledge of the principles of book-keeping; a book which the ordinary pastor, busy with multiplied cares and duties, can nse at any hour, and which, when its pages are referred to, shall at once, and in the simplest manner, give the information desired.
3d. CHEAPNESS. A book of this character which is to carry across many generations, records of incalculable value, should have the best material and workmanship available. We have not allowed our desire to produce a cheap book to tempt us into the folly of making a poor book. But we have had in mind continually the fact that many circuits and frontier charges are without a suitable record, because the price of such has seemed beyond their means.
Studying simplicity of arrangement, economy in production, and the careful gradation of sizes, we think we have secured a series of Records, some one of which, will be adapted to, and obtainable by, every charge in Methodism.
With this explanation we send forth the "Ideal," trusting that it may aid the Church in keeping the admonition of the Apostle, "Let all things be done decently and in order."
