FOREWORD
T HIS volume is one of a special edition compiled and printed for the families now residing within the Rural territory as shown by the Location Maps printed herewith.
The first important feature of the book is a complete list of residents of this territory-your trading center. The information has been com- piled by well-trained and careful representatives of the Publishers, and rechecked so that few if any errors can be found.
It will be noted that a considerable number of the names given in the list are printed in capital letters. This method is used to distinguish those who are subscribers to THE FARM JOURNAL; and the large number of them, as well as the evident fact that they are the best known and most highly respected members of the community, is a source of much gratification to the Publishers.
The second and really important main feature of the book named "How to Do Things" is a great collection of facts, methods, ideas, helps, short cuts, handy devices, implements, etc., which have been gleaned from the pages of THE FARM JOURNAL. Some are old because some very old things remain ever new; but most are now, well-tested, and well- adapted to the present day need of the up-to-date farmer.
In particular we have been careful to include many special articles on subjects which are of the highest interest to readers, as proved by the great number of letters and inquiries received by the Editors. Their job of furnishing reliable, helpful, and interesting reading, month after month, to more than 1,000,000 farm families in all parts of the United States gives them unequaled opportunity for knowing what Farm Folks are interested in and want to know about. Then their great motto is, "Let us ever help and never harm our readers."
This is the sort of reading that has appeared, appears now, and will continue to appear in THE FARM JOURNAL, and which we confidently believe will appeal, friend reader, to you.

Know Your Feed
Do you know that C. V. Graft makes the best PIG FEED and HOG FEED on the market today. Our IMPERIAL PIG MEAL cannot be beat for growing pigs and IMPERIAL HOG MEAL has no equal for fattening and finishing hogs. They are real feeds. No hulls, trash or cheap stuff in this feed. Made from all real feeds.
Note what our feeders say about IMPERIAL Feeds :
"The best proof that I am perfectly satisfied with IMPERIAL PIG MEAL and IMPERIAL HOG MEAL that I have bought my second earload in the past five months."- G. H. CLARK.
"Have fed twelve tons IMPERIAL HOG MEAL. Believe I get cheaper gains than with corn."-A. A. MILLER.
"My hogs done the best on IMPERIAL PIG MEAL than any feed I have ever used."-SILAS C. BENSON.
"IMPERIAL Feeds are surely great for growing and fattening hogs."-FORREST BENSON.
"I put on gain on fattening hogs for $10.16 ewt with IMPER- IAL HOG MEAL against $12.50 cwt with corn." EARL REES.
"Fed 100 pounds IMPERIAL PIG MEAL per day to 16 pigs. They made a gain of two pounds per day making a gain of 32 pounds to 100 pounds feed."-W. C. SHOEMAKER.
"I have fed several kinds of feed but never had any feed to give results as good as the IMPERIAL HOG MEAL."-HARRY COOK.

SERVICE
Anybody with money can rent a store, buy goods and employ clerks. But it takes more than that to make the ser- vice of a store good. It's on the quality of brains behind the management of a store that you must rely for real service.
This means --
The ability and willingness to look over the market thoroughly and to go from one maker to another until the right goods at the right prices are found.
Knowing styles so there will be no mistakes. Knowing quality in material and workmanship. Finding out what you like, and what will give you most satisfaction, and getting it for you.
Training salespeople so that you may be served always intelligently and quickly.
Working and planning to give you always more and more value for the dollar you spend.
That's REAL Service.
And your dollar goes farthest here because we've learned how to give you that sort of service.
