PREFACE.
-
We present the first issue of WILLIAMS' NEW ALBANY DIRECTORY to our patrons, confidently believing that it will be found by them as nearly accurate as any book of the kind can possibly be.
We have aimed to make our Work a fit representative of the public spirit and importance of the City of New Albany, and an accurate and complete "guide" to all public places, business loca- tions and private residences of the inhabitants of the City. How far we have succeeded, our patrons will determine. We trust, however, that an examination of the Work will prove that we have, at least, partially accomplished our object.
The Work embraces a General Directory-embracing a full list of the names and locations of the inhabitants of the City; a complete Business Directory-containing the name of each person and firm doing business in New Albany; with a City Guide-containing the names of all the Streeta, Alleys, Lanes and Avenues, giving their location and termini; also, the names of all Public Institutions, Banks, Churches, Societies, &c., in the City; together with a UNITED STATES POST OFFICE DIRECTORY-containing the name and location of every Post Office in the United States and Territories, arranged alphabetic- ally, and corrected up to date.
The Publisbers return their thanks to the Press of the city for the favorable notices given during the canvass, and to the business men and citizens of New Albany for their patronage and courteous treatment, and sincerely hope that the Directory will be found by them a most useful auxiliary in the transac- tion of business.
