Introductory

In the preparation and publication of this, our second City Directory, it has been our purpose to provide a handy and accurate guide to the homes, places of business, manufacturing estabishumments and offices of the people of New Castle and the ten Rural Routes that radiate from it.

The names have been so arranged, and the locations and directions given with such clearness and brevity, that it need not require more than a few minutes consultation of the Directory to find the number and street of any inhabitant of the city or the address of any person living upon the Rural Route by which the mails are delivered from the New Castle postoffice.

We have taken great pains to secure the correct name of every person in the city, over the age of twelve years, or within the Rural Territory cov- ered by the Directory, and also to insure, as far as possible, the absolute reliability of every portion given in its pages 2

Should we have failed to do so in any instance, or should we have made mistakes, we trust our friends will appreciate the difficulties of such an un- « dertaking and kindly pardon such omissions and errors as may be dis- y-covered.

It must be borne in mind that inany changes of location, transfers of real estate and exchanges of business or employment, or places of employ- ment are constantly occurring and that many persons whose names, num- bers, occupations and places of business are correctly given in The Directory, may change their places of residence or business in a short time; but The Directory will give the clue by which they can be found.

Hoping and believing that the work will be found one of great utility and convenience to all the people of New Castle, and the Rural Routes and their friends, and those having business relations with them who live else- where, we are, Your Friends,

WILLIAM A. DALE

WALTER F. WILKINSON.
