Introductory

T HE rapid growth of our city necessitates the publication of our fifth City Directory, and in its preparation it has been our purpose to provide a convenient and accurate guide to the homes, places of business, manufacturing establishments and ofices of the people of New Castle, and the ten Rural Routes that radiate from it.

The names have been so arranged that it need not require more than a few minutes consultation of the Directory to find the number and street of any inhabitant of the city or the address of any person living upon the Rural Routes by which the mails are delivered from the New Castle postoffice.

We have taken great pains to secure the correct name of every person in the city, over the age of fifteen years, or within the rural territory covered by the Directory, and also to secure, as far as possible, the absolute rellaa. bility of every portion given in its pages.

Should we have failed to do so in any instance, or should we have u.ade mistakes, we trust our friends will appreciate the difficulties of such an un. dertaking and kindly pardon such omissions and errors as may be dis. covered.

It must be borne in mind that many changes of location, transfers of real estate and exchanges of business or employment, or places of employment. are constantly occurring and that many persons whose names, numbers. occupations and places of business are correctly given in the Directory may change their places of residence or business in a short time: but the Directory will give the clue by which they can be found.

Hoping and believing that the work will be found one of great utility and convenience to all the people of New Castle, and the Rural Routes and their friends, and those having business relations with them who live elsewhere. we are, Your Friends,

WILLIAM A. DALE.
