INTRODUCTORY.
N PRESENTING this edition of the RICHMOND CITY DIRECTORY AND WAYNE COUNTY GAZETTEER to its patrons and the public, we do so with the belief that, as before, it will reflect credit upon the efforts and thorough system of the publishers, and that the work is as perfect and complete as a work of this kind can be made.
The worth of the City Directory is becoming more generally understood every year. Its value as a book of reference and as a guide to all the residences and business houses, streets and ave- nues, depots, public buildings, churches, schools, banks, societies and organizations, and, in fact, all the institutions of the city, has always been recognized.
The careful reader will observe that this volume contains an answer to every question that may be asked about the city and its institutions. This book, forming as it does a complete compen- dium of the City of Richmond and Wayne County, is placed in directory libraries of all the important cities of the United States and is frequently consulted by non-residents who contemplate a visit or removal. It is in this way that the directory becomes an invaluable advertising medium for the city and county it represents.
We desire to thank our many patrons for their continued support and those who have materially aided us in securing the necessary data.
