Charles E. Coffin, REAL ESTATE, MORTGAGE LOANS,
FIRE INSURANCE,
No. 34 North Delaware Street,
INDIANAPOLIS.
Have constantly on hand, for sale or trade, a large list of houses and lots, building lots, farms and lands.
Mortgage loans negotiated and Fire Insurance written at the lowest rates. Agent for the "Old and Tried " GLENS FALLS and other first- class fire insurance companies.
Particular attention given to the collection of rents, payment of taxes and care of city property and farms.
Refer to the banks and business men generally of Indianapolis.
Following is an extract from annual report of " Merchants' Exchange " on the Industries of Indianapolis :
" No business is of more importance than the Real Estate Agencies. A great por- tion of the property of a city is intrusted to these agents, either for selling, mortgaging or renting. In pursuance of this business, they necessarily influence the value of realty, fixing the selling or renting prices, and, while doing this, their assistance is invaluable, lifting the trouble and annoyance attending those matters from the minds of the owners, and relieving them from much petty care. It is a business requiring energy, industry and sound principles. One of the most successful agencies in this city is that of Mr. Charles E. Coffin. He started in this business with Messrs. Wiley & Martin in January, 1867, and continued with them six years, since which time he has been in business alone. He employs seven assistants, and Mr. C. E. Holloway is his efficient book-keeper and manager of the rental department. Mr. Coffin was born in this State July 13, 1849. He possesses all the qualifications necessary for making him a valuable man in the business -activity, prudence, good judgment and keen business tact. The dual relation sus- tained in this agency between both the owner, lessor or mortgagor and the buyer, tenant and mortgagee, calls for the best of business talent and for the most courteous and affable manners, as well as the strictest integrity. The success of Mr. Coffin fully attests his popularity and established reputation for integrity. Close attention to business, upright and honorable dealing has placed him on a solid basis, and he is a genial, courteous gentleman of irreproachable reputation."

MINNESOTA CHIEF SEPARATOR
MINNESOTA |CHIEF
MANUFACTURED BY SEYMOUR. SABIN & CO
STILLWATER
MINN.
BELTED SIDE OF THE MACHINE. ONLY FOUR DRIVING BELTS ON THE SEPARATOR, VIZ:
One main belt, running from the Cylinder and driving the Fan ; one small belt driv ing the only Beater in the machine; one belt driving the Grain Rake and one belt drivin the Straw Carrier.
It is neither a Vibrator nor an Apron Machine, but far surpasses either in all the e. sential requisites of a Perfect Thresher.
It is easy of management, light running, capable of very rapid threshing, as the Ser arating Table and Sieves will take care of all that can be passed the Cylinder.
In separating and cleaning it excels all others.
It threshes everything a farmer has to thresh-Wheat, Rye, Oats, Barley, Fla> Timothy, Millet, Clover and Peas. It handles Flax and Timothy nearly as rapidly a grain, requiring no change of parts, sieves, and cleans them fit for market. With it Clover Attachment it threshes Clover fully equal to any Huller.
It is by far the most popular Separator in the market, outselling all others whereve known. It invariably secures the most and best jobs of threshing.

INTRODUCTORY.
The Publishers, in presenting this, the twenty-seventh volume of the Indianapolis City Directory, note with pleasure the increase in the pop- ulation of the city. The present issue contains 36,849 names, as against 33,121 names in 1881 (including Irvington, Brightwood, North Indi- anapolis, Belmont, Mount Jackson and Haughsville), showing an in- crease over last year of 3,728, which at the usual ratio shows a gain of over 9,000, representing a marked advancement in the growth of the city, which may be attributed to the location of the numerous and ex- tensive manufacturing establishments during the year 1881.
The importance of an accurate City Directory cannot be over-esti- mated, and the Publishers feel confident that nothing has been omitted on their part in the compilation of this issue to make it perfect in sys- tematic arrangement and absolutely correct in point of general informa- tion, and that it will be found remarkably free from errors.
Each subscriber is presented with an official map of the city, which contains a complete Street Directory, so arranged that any given street may be found without a search of the entire map.
Thanks are due to the citizens for their support and co-operation, and we trust that the work will meet with general favor at the hands of the public. THE PUBLISHERS.
