PREFACE.

In submitting this volume of the Richmond and Wayne County Directory to their patrons and the public in general. the publishers do so feeling that they have complied in goo l faith with their promise to furnish a reliable Directory of your growing city and county. As it is an impossibility to make a Directory entirely free from errors, the publishers do not claim this volume perfect.

In looking into a Directory for information, remember there are a variety of ways for spelling the most simple names, and observe these before condemning the compiler. For instance, the name of Smith is spelled Smid, Smidt. Schmid, Schmidt, Smith, Schmitt, and the name of Snyder is spelled Snider, Selmider, Schmieder, Schneider. Suicder. Sneider, etc., etc.

When taking the information for this work, an actual count was made of the number of living souls in the city of Richmond and vicinity, including West Richmond, Sovas- topol, Linden Hill, Clifton, etc., and the result is as stated at the head of this page.

Thanking all for their patronage and information, woare

Very respectfully. THE PUBLISHERS.
