BUFFALO UNION IRON WORKS PALMER & CO.
Sage Sinr &ib Huffale V. Y.
PIG-IRON BAR-IRON RAIL ROAD-IRON
BEAMS ANGLE-IRON HALF - ROUND T- IRON BAND - IRON & C.
OVAL-IRON
J'aiheutein attention will be given to the Manufacturing of extin , irmed a seguir, as well as artin trapes of iron such as is iefp
ge siged non , including Hat Budge tipset building.
We are adding to our works, and are putting in large trains to enable us to produce iron of very large section. Our rail train is extra large, (the largest in the United States,) cnabling us to roll piles of double the section that can be rolled in ordinary rail mills. We produce our own pig iron, and from our position command the finest ores in the country, which in connection with the size of our rail train, enables us to produce rails of uniform and superior quality.
In our Merchant Mills we shall be enabled to roll solid beams and girders as deep as 15 inches ; flat bar iron as wide as 12 inches, and round iron as large as 7 inches in diameter; other shapes of proportionate sizes. Our Merchant iron trains will consist of one train of rolls 8 inches, one do. 12 inches, and one do. 21 inches in diameter, the latter train capable of producing bars of one and one-half tons weight each, going down, in the smaller trains, to the smallest sizes used.
SPECIAL NOTICE.
The annual progress in the varied business interest of the Commercial Empo- rium and Capitol of our State, demands increased labor, and corresponding improvement in each successive number of the City Directory. Our patrons will bear us witness that at no previous period in our history, has the improvement in every branch of business been more marked than during the past year. Increas- ing with regularity and rapidity since about 1850, the progress since 1862 has been almost unparalleled in the history of any other inland American city. In proof of our rapid advance in population, we need only refer to the fact, that the present number of the City Directory contains about fifteen hundred more names than the Directory for 1864, issued one year since. These names, it must be remembered, embrace householders, heads of families, and business names and firms only. From this data it will be safe to presume that Indianapolis received an accession to her entire population, during the past year, of about twenty per cent.
In canvassing the city and collecting matter for the present number, our can- vassers have visited every house and place of business, and, in many instances, repeated calls have been made, for the purpose of perfecting, as far as possible, the details for this work. In its publication and delivery we have been unavoidably detained by the re-numbering of the city, which was not entirely completed at the date of our canvass. Where numbers do not occur, we have designated locations by streets and blocks, to obviate this difficulty as far as possible.
Strangers, and others, who visit our city for business purposes, will find the most extensive establishments, in all the various branches, very fully represented in our advertising pages. For the liberal patronage extended us, our advertisers and subscribers have placed us under grateful obligations.
That our next annual issue in January, 1866, may truthfully record an era of enlarged manufacturing facilities, with rapid strides in commercial greatness,-in short, another year of unexampled prosperity in all the business relations of our city, is the desire of
