PREFACE.
This little book is presented with the hope that the little information it con- veys, will be the means of encouraging the membership to a more active ser- vice in the work of the church. It seems almost impossible to obtain a perfect roster of names and addresses, owing to the frequent changes and re- movals. One or two occurred during the preparation of this Directory. So do not hold us responsible for we have done our best. May the Lord help you, dear reader, to so live that your name may be found in the Lamb's Book of Life, as well as in this little book, is the earnest prayer of
Your Humble Servant,
M. F. RICKOFF.

West Creighton Ave Church of Christ.
This congregation was organized April 16, 1896, with 114 members. Du. ring the summer months following, the new organization held its meetings in South Wayne hall, corner Indiana and Lincoln Ave's, while the present edi- fice was building. This was dedicated Nov 22, 1896, by F. M. Rains with 136 members. The congregation has stead- ily grown in numbers to about Three Hundred, its present membership.
Like many churches a heavy debt was an unfortunate hindrance from the beginning to a very rapid growth, but it is slowly diminishing under the vig- orous blows of the Ladies' Auxiliary, until it is no longer a serious menace to progress.
All the different departments of the work are in healthful condition, and all the recent annual financial reports in- dicate a deep interest. Most all of these reports show large gains over former years.
The Sunday School, Christian En- deavor, Ladies' Auxiliary, Christian Woman's Board of Missions, Young
Men's Christian Association, are each large influential organizations within the church doing effective service along their respective lines. It would not be fitting to make special mention of any one of these organizations, for activity is characteristic alike of every one, and a steady growth in each is the reward.
Not a few in the church are distin- guished for their piety and earnest con- secration, hence the prayer meetings have been unusually well attended for some time, especially by a large num- ber of young men, and their influence is being felt for good.
A dearth of the evangelistic spirit is about the only criticism that might be offered. There is a crying need for a revival in this line of work in order to preserve the present healthful condi- tion. The regular Lord's Day attend- ance is large and one of the most hope- ful signs of unfailing interest and it is believed that the soul thirsting fervor of a year ago will soon return. Then let us " not be weary in well doing, but be steadfast, immovable, always abound- ing in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labor is not in vain in the Lord."
Ths Church of Christ.
It Is hard for many to see any difference between churches, " that one is just as good as another." If that be true then why have so many and call them by different names, for the Bible condemns dlvlslon. ( 1 Cor 1:10.) Tak- Ing the Scriptures for our rule of faith and practice, we find :-
1. That it is wrong to call ourselves by any name not found in the New Testament.
2. That it is wrong to alter or change any Apostolic practice or condition in the plan of salvation. If the Apostles preached falth In Christ as essential to saivation, then we should not add any other article of faith. If they de- mand obedlence to bring us Into the body of Christ, we should do the same. If they met on each Lord's day to break bread ( Communlon ) we should foilow their example. If they Im- mersed all believers, then immersion is the only action for a scriptural baptism.
3. That sectarlanlsm Is wrong, for it divldes God's people, and often into warring factions. Our Savior prayed for a ciose and intimate unlon, "That they all may be ONE as thou Fa- ther art in me and I In thee, that they also may be ONE in us.
The foregoing and many kindred statements might be made to show some of our peculiar- Ities as a religious body. We insist that all be- lievers In Christ should discard all human names, reject all human Innovations, and unlte In "ONE BODY," and known only by a Script- ural name as Church of God, or, Church of Christ.
How to Become a Christian.
1. Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ as your Savior aud Redeemer. John 3:16; Mark 16:15-16.
2. Repent and determine to live a Godly life in Christ Jesus. Acts 3:38; 3:19; 17:30
3. Confess Christ before men. Matt 10:32 33; Acts 8:36-40; Rom 10:9-10.
4. Be baptized. Matt 28:19-30; Acts 8:36-40.
In the above conditions we appropri- ate to ourselves the salvation wrought out by Jesus Christ. This is the human side in the " work of redemption." The pardon of our past sins, the indwelling presence of the Holy Spirit together with the gift of his assuring promises, are the expressions of God's free grace. This prepares one to enter the Christ- ian life.
