It has several important manu- facturing concerns, and is noted as a market for blooded horses. It has also a large grain trade, consequent upon its location in a fertile agricul- tural district. County seat of Delaware County, Indiana. Located at the junc- tion of L. E. & W., Pennsylvania, C. & S. E., C. ELWOOD.


Madison County, Indiana. Located at the junction of L. E. & W. and Pennsylvania Railroads, 16 miles northwest of Anderson and 52 miles north of Indianapolis. It is an important manufacturing center, being located in the famous gas belt, thus affording cheap fuel for all manufacturing purposes. Population 13,000.


SHELBYVILLE.


County seat of Shelby County, Indiana. Located at the junc- tion of the Big Four and Pennsylvania Railroads, 25 miles southeast of Indianapolis. Commercially and in manufacturing interests one of the most flourishing cities in southern Indiana. It has a diversity of manufacturing establishments, as well as large agricultural interests and is a thrifty progressive growing city of 5,000 people.


GREENFIELD.


County seat of Hancock County, Indiana, 21 miles east of Indi- anapolis on P., C., C. & St. L. Railroad and is the terminus of the Indi- anapolis and Greenfield Electric Road. It is a very progressive city of 5,000 People. It has a fine Court House and school buildings and a well paved square. It has several manufacturing industries among them being glass, stove, and brick making. It is in a very rich agricultural district.


GREENCASTLE.


County seat of Putnam County, Indiana. Located on three rail- roads, Big Four, T. H. & I. and Monon, 40 miles east of Indianapolis. It has several manufacturing establishments, one of Hardwood Lumber being the largest. Its agricultural interests are important. Its educa- tional interests are centered mainly in DePauw University under the patronage of the M. E. Church. Its population is 4,000.


FRANKFORT.


County seat of Clinton County, Indiana. Located at the junc- tion of the L. E. & W., Clover Leaf, Vandalia and Monon Railroads, 40 miles northwest of Indianapolis. It has a few manufacturing con- cerns, but its most important interests are in connection with its agricul- tural industries. Population 8,000.


DANVILLE.


County seat of Hendricks County, Indiana. Located on the Big Four Railroad, 20 miles west of Indianapolis. It has some small man- ufacturing industries, but its interests are mainly identified with the rich agricultural country of which it is the geographical center. A large pri- vate school is located here which draws pupils from all parts of the state. Its population is 2,000.

County seat of Boone County, Indiana. Located at the junction of the Big Four and C. & S. E. Railroads, 28 miles northwest of Indi- anapolis. It is an exceedingly thrifty town and has a number of im- portant manufacturing concerns, besides several of local interest. Popu- lation 5,000.


CONNERSVILLE.


County seat of Fayette County, Indiana. Situated on White River at the junction of the C. H. & D., Big Four and L. E. & W. Railroads, 55 miles southeast of Indianapolis. It has a number of manufacturing concerns, besides being in the heart of a very fertile agricultural district, and is altogether a very prosperous city of 7,000 inhabitants.


ALEXANDRIA.


Madison County, Indiana. Located at the junction of the L. E. & W. and Big Four Railroads, and the Union Traction Electric Line, 11 miles north of Anderson, the county seat, and 48 miles northeast of Indianapolis. It is one of the original natural gas towns of the state, and has more large manufacturing establishments than any other town of its size in the state. Population 8,000.


MARTINSVILLE.


County seat of Morgan County, Indiana. Located at the junction of the I. & V. and Big Four Railroads, 30 miles south of Indianapolis, is famous for its mineral springs and sanitariums in con- nection, bringing people from all over the world to get the benefit of their healing virtues. It has no manufactories of great importance but. its agricultural interests are large. Its population is about 5,000.


FRANKLIN.


County seat of Johnson County, Indiana. Located at the junc- tion of the J. M. & I. and Big Four Railroads, and is the southern terminus of the Geenwood Electric Line, 20 miles south of Indianapolis. Its interests are largely identified with the large and fertile agricultural · district which surrounds it. It is also a seat of learning. Franklin College, under the direction of the Baptist denomination being located here. Population 5,000.

ROACHDALE.


Putnam County, Indiana, is a thrifty village at the junction of the Monon and I. D. & W. Railroads. It has several lumber and wood working manufactories and is the center of a rich agricultural district. Its population in 1900 was 945.


KNIGHTSTOWN.


Henry County, Indiana. Located at the junction of the Big Four and Pennsylvania Railroads on Blue River, 14 miles southwest of New Castle, the county seat, and 35 miles east of Indianapolis. Its interests are divided between manufacturing and agriculture. The Indiana Soldier's and Sailors' Orphans Home is located here. Popu- lation 2,000.


CAMBRIDGE CITY.


Wayne County, Indiana. Located at the junction of the Penn- sylvania, Big Four and L. E. & W. Railroads, 53 miles east of Indian- apolis and 16 miles west of Richmond, the county seat. It has some small manufacturing concerns and is the center of a fertile agricultural section. It is noted as a horse market. Its population is 2,000.


PENDLETON.


Madison County, Indiana, 28 miles northeast of Indianapolis, on the Big Four and the Union Traction Electric Line and 8 miles south- west of Anderson, the county seat. Some manufacturing plants are located here, but the interests are mainly agricultural. Its population is 1,800.

SHIRLEY.


Hancock County, Indiana. Located on the Big Four Railroad, 40 miles northeast of Indianapolis and 18 miles from Greenfield, the county seat. It is an enterprising manufacturing town, having two large glass factories and other industries. Population 800.


GREENWOOD.


Johnson County, Indiana, 10 miles south of Indianapolis, and about the same distance north of Franklin, the county seat, on the J. M. & I. Railroad and the Indianapolis, Greenwood & Franklin Electric Line, is a thriving town of nearly 2,000. It has an extensive canning industry and manufacture of food products, besides dairying and other agricultural interests.


CENTERVILLE.


Wayne County, Indiana. Located on the Pennsylvania Rail- road, 6 miles west of Richmond, the county seat and 63 miles east of Indianapolis. Its interests are mainly agricultural having no large factories. Population 800.


FORTVILLE.


Hancock County, Indiana. 20 miles northeast of Indianapolis on the Big Four and the Union Traction Electric Line, and 12 miles from Greenfield, the county seat, is the center of a thriving agricultural region. Population 1,100.


INGALLS.
