FORT WAYNE CITY GUIDE.
Fort Wayne College-West end Wayne street. The Institution was first informally set before the public September 28. 1846, by a meeting of a Board of Trustees not under the charter. In January, 1847, a charter was granted by the State Legislature incorporating the Institution as " Fort Wayne Female College." The Trustees first met under the charter June 19, 1847. The corner-stone was laid with appropriate ceremonies June 23, 1847. And the College was opened in October, 1847, for the reception of students. In the spring of 1850 gentlemen were admitted to the classes by permission, and May 14, 1853, a school for gentlemen, styled the " Fort Wayne Collegiate Institute," was in- corporated, the two Institutions being virtually one in Faculty, Classes and Edifice. On the 10th day of October, 1855, the two Institutions were consolidated by law, with the name and title of "Fort Wayne College," under a charter as ample as any College in the land. Since that both sexes have been, as equals, admitted to its halls. From its origin, a degree of prosperity attended which made its friends confident that the hand and blessing of Providence was in the enterprise. It has educated very many, and has graduated a large number, all of whom can be spoken of honorably as workers; earnest and zealous. Faculty-Rev. John B. Robinson, A.
