PUBLIC FREE SCHOOLS.
The City Schools are under the general management of a Board of three Trustees, elected by the Common Council, viz: Thomas B. Elliott, President, W. H. L. Noble, Secretary and Treasurer, and Clemens Vonne- gut. A. C. Shortridge is Superin- tendent of the Public Schools. Office of the Board and Superintendent, is in Vinton's Block, third story front, opposite the Post Office.

There are ten School Buildings, and forty-five teachers. The Schools are divided into three departments : Primary, Intermediate and High School, with four grades in each de-
partment. It is contemplated, as soon as possible, to build a Central High School building, on the site of the present Second Ward building, located on the west side of north Delaware street, between Vermont and Michigan. A large School House is now in process of erection in the southern part of the city, on Union street, between Merrill and McCarty, which will accommodate five hundred pupils.
