United States Courts of the District of Indiana-The United States is divided into nine Judicial Circuits, in each of which a

Circuit Court is held for each district within each circuit. The act of Congress approved April 10, 1869, provided as fol- lows : "The Circuit Courts in each Cir- cuit shall be held by the Justice of the Supreme Court alloted to the Circuit, or by the Circuit Judge of the Circuit, or by the District Judge of the District, sitting alone, or by the Justice of the Supreme Court and Circuit Judge sitting together, in which case the Justice of the Supreme Court shall preside, or in the absence of either of them by the other (who shall preside,) and the District Judge." The State of Indiana comprises one Judicial District. The courts for the District are held at Indian- apolis. The District is attached to the Seventh Judicial Circuit, which comprises the States of Wisconsin, Illinois and Indi- ana.
