COURTS.
The United States is divided into nine Ju- dicial Circuits, in each of which a Cir- cuit Court is held for each district within each circuit. The act of Congress ap- proved April 10, 1869, provides as fol- lows: " The Circuit Court in each cir- cuit shall be held by the Justice of the Supreme Court allotted to the circuit, or by the Circuit Judge of the circuit, or by the District Judge of the district, sitting alone, or by the Justice of the Supreme Court and Circuit Judge sitting together, in which case the Justice of the Supreme Court shall preside, or in the absence of `either of them, by the other (who shall preside), and the District Judge." The State of Indiana comprises one Judicial District. The courts for the district are held at Indianapolis, New Albany, Ev- ansville and Ft. Wayne. The district is attached to the Seventh Judicial Circuit, which comprises the states of Wisconsin, Illinois and Indiana.
