Sulgrove, 44 East Washington, is doing an extensive business, and employs about ten hands. The others engaged in the retail manufacturing business, are John Andra, Charles Nicolai, and James M. Blair.
SASH, BLINDS, AND DOORS.
In this business there are three firms, Kregelo, Blake & Co., Geo. W. Hill, and Byrkit & Beam. These have plaining mills in connection with their establishments. They turn out a large amount of work, and give employment to about one hundred hands.
SAW WORKS.
The only saw works in the State are located in this city, where saws of every description are made from the very best material, and are as good as any made in the country. The factory is owned by Elias C. Atkins, and is located at No. 155 South flli- nois street.
STOVE FOUNDERY.
One of the largest stove works in the West is carried on here by Root, Bennett & Co. They have lately built a large brick building, in connection with their foundery, to accommodate and furnish additional facilities for their large and constantly increas- ing trade. The ware-rooms are at No. 68 East Washington. and the foundry Pennsylvania, between Louisiana and South streets.

UMBRELLA MAKING.
John F. Mayer, 60 East Washington, started an establishment of this kind about eighteen months ago.
VINEGAR FACTORIES.
The principal firm engaged in this business is Ludlow & At- kins. Factory, South street, near Madison depot.
WOOLEN GOODS.
Indianapolis can boast of two extensive woolen factories ; that of G. W. Geisendorff & Co., 268 West Washington, and Merritt & Coughlin, directly opposite. In this business a large capital is invested in machinery, engines, &c., and with the constant de- mands for ready means in the purchase of raw material, too much cannot be said in praise of the enterprise and perseverance of the above above firms in adding so much to the manufactur- ing interests and prosperity of Indianapolis.
MASONIC HALL.
Is located on the south-east corner of West Washington and Tennessee streets ; three stories in highth. The lower, or first floor is divided into a number of spacious business rooms, while the second is a large commodious hall, known as Masonic Concert Hall, and is capable of seating about 2,000 persons. The Hall is finished in a beautiful style of art. The walls are of a beautiful rose tint-the cornice in silver white, with a beautiful Raphael scroll, relieved by a brilliant blue ground, while the ceiling is tinted in such a manner as to give the impression of a greater height to the Hall. It is handsomely elaborated with stucco cen- ter pieces in white and blue which lend a soft mellow appearance to the whole interior. The wood work is in equally good taste, being pure white. The Grand Lodge Room is considered Mr. Gulick's master-piece. The walls are laid off in variegated mar- ble. The ceiling represents the "star-decked canopy," and is beautiful beyond description. On the east wall is a correct rep- resentation of the "Grand Eastern Gate." Its drapery and sur- roundings are considered, by connaisseurs, unequalled.
Mr. Gulick seems to have caught the spirit of his work, and

has certainly won for himself a lasting reputation on this, his chef d'orre.
It is designed to finish the Chapter, and Commandery lodge rooms, and ante-rooms, in appropriate style, early in the Spring. For the Concert Hall, new and beautiful scenery is to be painted by Mr. Gulick.

The lower floor is divided into five large and commodious store rooms; the second floor is occupied by the Mayor and other city officers, two publishing houses, and a general Insurance Agency; and the third is occu- pied by the several subordinate lodges of the Order in the city, and the Grand and Subordinate encampments. 1

ask not of what clime or country a man is a native, or what may be his political or religious belief, for them it is all sufficient to know that sorrow exists, and they can alleviate ; that misery and famine dwell in this land of plenty, and they can provide means of relief. Oh, who can number the prayers of thankfulness, the tears of happiness, and the smiles of joy brought into being by tha timely acts of this noble-hearted band ! They have felt that " It is more blessed to give than to receive," and, with liberal hand bestow upon the needy out of their abun dance.
In February of 1860, the Chief Councillors of the Order as- sembled in Washington City, and adopted a new mode of organ- ization, and an entirely new ritual. Under this organization the Lodges at this place are now working, and great good has resulted from their efforts. If the present unhappy condition of our be- loved country be ever bettered, if there ever exists a kinder feel- ing between the two sections of the country than at the present time, it will be in a great measure due to the efforts for pacification now being put forth by the members of this Order.
