ADVERTISED LETTERS-All letters remaining in the office are advertised on Monday of each week. If not claimed in two weeks thereafter, they are forwarded to the dead letter office at Washington.

DOMESTIC POSTAGE RATES.


FIRST CLASS-Letters, all written matter and all matter sealed or fastened to preclude examination, 2 cents each or fraction.


SECOND CLASS-Newspapers and periodicals sent by puplishers or news agents, 1 cent each ponnd or fraction. When sent by others, 1 cent for every four ounces or fraction.

THIRD CLASS-Printed matter, books, cromos, engra- ings, music, photographs, all productions on paper, except hand-writing and typewriting, unsealed, 1 cent each two ounces on fraction. Limit of weight four pounds, except for single books.


FOURTH CLASS-All matter not included in above, unsealed, 1 cent for each ounce or fraction. Limit of weight four pounds.


A package whether sealed or unsealed, containing writing, subjects it to postage at 2 cents per ounce.


UNMAILABLE MATTER.


Animals, reptiles, alive or dead, (not stuffed). insects, ex- cept'a queen bee when safely secured, are excluded from the mails. Also liquors, poisons, explosives, or inflamable articles, no matter how carefully wrapped or excluded ..


REGISTERED LETTERS.


Two letters and valuable packages may be registered to any post office in the United States, on payment of a fee of & centa and regular postage ..

CANADIAN POSTAGE.


Letter and newspaper postage to Canada, same as in the United States, Merchandise by mail to Canada,, must not exceed eight ounces in weight,, and the postage is 10 cents whether the package weighs one ounce on eight ounces


Samples off merchandise for dispatch im mails to foreign countries are restrictedi to bona fide trade samples or speci- mens having no salable or commercial value in excess of that: actually necessary for their use as samples: or specimens. Accordingly every article of mailable matter to which a 10 cent special delivery stamp is affixed, in addition to the postage required by law, will upon its arrival by mail, have immediate delivery by a special messenger within the carrier's limits of any free delivery post office, or within one mile of any other post office in the United States, to whitch it may be addressed. A letter bearing a special delivery stamp, together with the regular postage, may be mailed at any post office. A special delivery stamp costs 10 cents.
