COURTS.


The United States Is divided into nine Judicial Circuits, In each of which a Circuit Court is heid for each district within each circuit. The act of Con- gress approved April 10. 1869, provides as follows: "The Circuit Court in each distriet shall be held by the Justice of the Supreme Court allotted to the Cir- Mult. or by the Circuit Judge of the Circult, or by the District Judge of the District, sitting alone, or by the Justice of the Supreme Court and Circuit Judge witting together, in which case the Jus- ties of the Supreme Court shall pre- aide, or in the absence of either of them. by the other (who shall preside), and the District Judge." The. State of In- diana comprises one Judiclai District. The courts of the district are held in Indianapolis, New Albany, Evansville. Fort Wayne and Hammond. The dis- triet Is attached to the Seventh Judicial Circuit, which comprises the States of Wisconsin, Ilinois and Indiana.
