A STAFFORD-TONE is an original copper halftone, with a nickel face. It prints better and wears longer than other halftones. Here are some reasons for its superiority:

Up till now, halftones have been made of copper, a metal which has some distinct failings for this use. Copper is soft. Consequently, copper halftones wear out quickly. They are very easily scratched. Some printing inks contain acids which corrode and eat copper. A used halftone in storage often developes cor- roded or "soft" spots which ruin it.

Nickle is hard-much harder than copper. With their nickel face, STAFFORD- TONES wear twice as long as ordinary halftones. They do not scratch nearly as easily. The acids in printing ink do not affect nickel, and STAFFORD-TONES can- not be corroded.

As a result of their nickel face, therefore, you can expect greater service from STAFFORD-TONES than from copper halftones. They will stand up better for longer runs; or, if you do not print large editions, you can use the same STAFFORD-TONE several times-for instance, in your catalog, then in a folder, later in a broadside, and finally in a new edition of the catalog. And when you store away a STAFFORD- TONE in good condition, you can depend on finding it in the same condition when you want to use it again.

If they had no other point of superiority, their longer wear would put STAF- FORD-TONES a long step ahead of ordinary halftones. But equally important is the fact that STAFFORD-TONES print better, due to the fact that nickel makes a better printing surface than copper.

We applied for patents, and our every claim was allowed (Nov. 7, 1922). We are so proud of these new halftones that we gave them our own name-STAFFORD- TONES. The process is exclusive, and genuine STAFFORD-TONES-the perfect printing plates-may be secured only from us.

When a better product is placed on the market, it is usual to charge more- but not STAFFORD-TONES. They are sold at exactly the same price as we have been charging for copper halftones.
