should appear in the Directory and the Directory should be in Every Store.
Besides its use to the storekeeper, it is a con- venience the customer looks for.
The store that offers an old Directory, or no Directory at all, fails to show its patrons a courtesy they will find elsewhere.

PUBLIC PARASITES ... That steal away your dollars
ER BUSIA
NOM
The appearance of this Public
Service Message in these columns is evidence that this publication subscribes whole- heartedly to the principles of the Better Business Bureau, and co-operates with the Bu- reau in protecting you-even to the extent of refusing to accept the advertising of firms whose advertising and sales policies are proved to be contrary to public interest.
Before you buy spices, household, food, or medicinal products from the agent at your door who says that, "a part of every dollar you spend for these products goes to the support of orphans, or to charity", first find out how many dollars that company gave to help orphans or charity last year. If the agent cannot give it to you, call the Bureau.
Before you pay good money to a peddler of rugs represented to be "Orientals", or for lace claimed to be "Irish", get some expert advice if you are not thoroughly familiar with these items, as to their quality and value. The story that they have been smuggled, and therefore are offered at a bargain, is in nearly every instance, untrue. This is a well organized racket.
Before you give a cash bond to a stranger in order to obtain a salaried job-beware-find out first if he is an authorized repre- sentative of a responsible concern; that he is not merely interested in your cash bond, and has no real job to offer.
Before you donate to this or that charity solicitation, be sure that the solicitor is an authorized representative of an established organization, and that such organization has a Charity Solicitation License granted by the City Controller of the City of Indianapolis. This licensing ordiance applies to EVERY charity organization or solicitation in the City. All legitimate charitable enterprises gladly abide by this regulation and secure licenses.
Before you buy "advertising" in an unknown "directory", or other publication, find out how long it has been published. It is established and regularly issued? Does it serve a purpose which insures or maintains reader interest; or is it merely originated and used as an excuse for soliciting money for a "cause"? If you are not completely satisfied with the story of the solicitor call the Bureau for information.
Before you obligate yourself in any way at the solicitation of a stranger, get enough facts to enable you to decide that you are dealing with a duly authorized representative of a responsible organization.
