Subscribers on party lines must not use their telephones more than five min- utes at a time, as others on line might want to use their phone.
Instructions for Use of Rural Line Telephones
1. Always call central offices and ask for the number wanted even if party is on your own line.
2. To call central office give the bell crank one sharp turn and then place the telephone to your ear. The operator will answer "What Number?" When the operator repeats the number, if party wanted is on the same line as yourself, hang up your telephone until operator rings party wanted.
3. Always listen on the line before ringing. If line is in use hang up your receiver and wait five minutes. Then try again.
4. Never, UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES, take down your receiver when bell rings some other signal than your own. Subscribers are not allowed to listen on the line when other parties are talking. The management reserves the right to cancel any contract at any time for violation of this rule.
5. Do not hold the line more than five minutes at any one time. Remember other folks have equal rights as yourself.
6. Death messages and calls for doctors take precedence over all other business.
7. Singing or the playing of musical instruments over lines will not be per- mitted.
8. Operators are required to be courteous in all their dealings with subscribers, but are not allowed to hold conversations with them beyond what is necessary in answering calls.

HIS Company, which is composed of the owners of fifteen of the exchanges in Central Kansas, have under construction a new trunk Toll Line extending from Topeka to Abilene, Kansas.
This line will be ready for operation March 1, 1904.
At Topeka, Kansas, this line connects with the toll lines of the Western Independent Telephone Company extending to Kansas City, Missouri, and eastern points.
Through copper metallic circuits will be maintained from Abilene to Kansas City with absolutely no intermediate stations cut in on the line. In this manner we expect to give the best possible service.
From Abilene there will extend full No. 10 copper metallic cir- cuits in every direction, reaching the following cities: Minneapolis, Beloit, Concordia, Salina, Clay Center, Marion, Herington, Newton, Hutchinson, and in fact all the principal points in central and northern Kansas.
No expense has been spared to make this line thoroughly first- class in every respect.
Telephone bills must be paid by the tenth of each month or service will be discontinued.
